Shiny Pokemon

A new feature in Gold/Silver/Crystal is shiny Pokemon. You have a very slim 1 in 8,192 chance of running into one in the wild. Shiny Pokemon are special, not only because they are a different color and "shine" when released into battle, but they also have above average stats because they have Defense, Speed, and Special DV's (Diversity Values) of 10. The most famous example of a shiny Pokemon is the Red Gyarados who lives in the Lake of Rage. To make sure you have a special colored Pokemon look at its stats and if it has 3 pluses by its gender, then that means it's a shiny one.

Pokemon Crystal

When you visit the Daycare Center below Goldenrod City for the first time, the man will give you an Odd Egg. It takes up a Pokemon slot just like a real egg. It canhatch into one of seven Pokemon: Tyrogue, Igglybuff, Pichu, Cleffa, Magby, Elekid, or Smoochum. Whatever the Pokemon is, it will have Dizzy Punch. There are only two ways it can go in terms of stats. It will either be shiny with bad Attack, or it will be 0000 for DVs. This means that even if the Pokemon have their personal best, you will be 30 points off maximum. Also, you have got about a 14% chance of scoring a shiny. To ensure that the Pokemon will go the way you want, save before you get the Egg then do not save again until it hatches. When it does, check the Pokemon. If it is shiny, and is the baby you want, keep it.

Shiny Ditto

There is a way to get a shiny Ditto, but it requires you to have Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow.

  1. Capture a shiny Pokemon. The easiest one to get is the Red Gyarados up at the Lake of Rage. Now delete all its moves except for a move that doesn't do damage like Leer or Rest; it must also appear in Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow.
  2. Trade the shiny Pokemon back to Red/Blue/Yellow (don't worry if it looks normal) and teach it TM31 Mimic.
  3. Buy as many Ultra Balls as you can afford (or the Master Ball if you did not use it), and find a wild Ditto.
  4. When you run into a wild Ditto, use Mimic to learn Transform. When Ditto uses Transform, it will either know Mimic or Transform. Either way, it will eventually use Transform again.
  5. Be sure not to knock it out and throw an Ultra or Master Ball at it to catch it. The special thing about your new Ditto is that it will have permanently copied the shiny Pokemon's genes.
  6. Go to a Pokemon Center and heal it right away because its HP will be a little off and sometimes it will have more HP than it can possibly have.
  7. Trade your Ditto back to Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal and you will have a shiny Ditto.
