Can DOS run modern programs?


Or can I at least run windows 98 or 2000 to use modern videogames?



I'm trying to save money on operating systems for the computer I'm downloading.

From my experience, DOS can not virtualize modern systems, but modern systems can quite impressively virtualize DOS. DOSBox is an example of this.

MSDOS is the early Windows, but otherwise no.
