People occasionally ask me how to become a moderator. I generally just tell them to stay active, follow the rules, etc. However, we look for a lot more when we promote a moderator than what is listed in the rules, and go through an entire process. I figured some people might like to know what this process is:
Becoming a Moderator
1. Generally one of the Administrators will make note of a user they think is capable of being a moderator.
2. Other administrators will comment, watch, and then decide if this user is capable.
3. If the user is capable, we will promote them to the "Non-Mod Elite" usergroup. In this usergroup, people will get a feel of what it is like to be a moderator by having greater power.
4. If in this usergroup, the user is still active for the next few weeks or months, the Administrators will once again talk, and if they feel it is time for the user to become a moderator, they will make them a Global Moderator.
5. Several months later, if the user is still showing activity, they themselves may become a partial Administrator. This has happened twice in the past, with our moderators "Shiny Espeon" and "PokeMaster".
6. Generally a user is never given full administrative powers unless the previous one has left. Right now, I would qualify as that one, and Winter would be the one to take over if I needed to leave.
During certain of the above steps, you may also screw up, and be demoted a stage. Here would be that process:
Becoming a Normal User Again
4. If after becoming a non-mod elite, the user breaks any major rule, breaks smaller rules multiple times, or becomes inactive for a period of a week without notification, they will become a normal user.
5. If after becoming a global moderator, a user breaks multiple major rules, consistently breaks multiple small rules, or becomes inactive for a period of a month without notification, they will demoted. The same can happen once becoming a partial administrator as well.
Also, there are certain things Administrators look for when promoting users. Here are the big ones:
Super Rules
- Is a fluent speaker of English, and exercises proper grammar and spelling, not using chat speak.
- Frequently posts, usually posting 10-20 or more posts in a day. Also adds a thread every day or every other day.
- Shows impressive use of BB-Code formatting to make posts understandable, as well as Pokezam's custom BB Codes like . At the same time, does not use BB-Code where not appropriate.
- Is knowledgeable about Pokemon, as well as other Animes and Games.
- And, of course, follows rules almost perfectly.
