Being that there are over 150 Pokemon in the Kanto region alone, there are Pokemon other than Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander that could be starter Pokemon. However, you sometimes have to wonder just which of the Pokemon could in fact be good starters for people who might want them to be.

So, I'm curious, which of the original Kanto Pokemon do you think could also be starters? I ask this because of an upcoming Pokezam project.

How about Oddish/Bellsprout instead of Bulbasaur?
How about Horsea instead of Squirtle? Or maybe Poliwag?
Dratini can be added too, but it is not really a substitution. The same goes with Eevee.
Maybe Magby can be added instead of Charmander? However, its final evolution, Magmortar, belongs to Sinnoh.
Also Pidgey is a possiblity?
Now you choose wisely XD

Dratini maybe?

Dratini is a more ubėr Pokemon, being it evolves into one of the most powerful non-legendary Pokemon in Kanto. Pidgey is one I definitely am considering, as well as Oddish, Bellsprout, and and Poliwag.

I would also say Pidgey.

Okay, I hope no one even begins to think of choosing a starter over the already original three. I mean, there is a reason Pokemon are starters. They are starters because there aren't THAT many of them and they are said to be rare. Pidgey, Bellsprout, and Oddish do not fit the description. Dratini however does somewhat. However, the only Pokemon I can see even being a Kanto starter outside of Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur is Pikachu. Mainly because of the anime. I don't know...

Dratini might be considered uber but it is rare. And it does what every other starter does, has two other evolutions. So, Pikachu and Dratini are the only two other starters I can think of. Pidgey, and the rest of them being too weak and too common to be a starter in my opinion. I must end this by saying that it would be better to keep it the way it is though meaning the three starters being a Fire, Water and Grass Type.

Hm... Well, that does make enough sense. Presently, as of Alpha 2, there were four starters set up for the project, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Pikachu. I still think, though, that adding Pidgey might allow for good balance, however I kinda want to stay the most like the original games, therefor I may just make it catchable in the very first route.

I agree completely.

Quick Question: Are you going to have it like the game by making it so the starter you choose cannot be caught during the game, or are you going to have it so that you can catch Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur or Pikachu in the wild.

I only said Pikachu because on the screenshot, Pikachu is a starter. :P

They will all be available eventually, but only much later in the game. In the mean time, you will be able to trade with other people.

I'm almost done with the third Alpha, and will be posting the fourth in early July for staff to test (I may go for the Fourth on the Fourth of July cliché).

Presently, the starters will be Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur. You will also be able to choose a group to be part of. I'll be showing more when I post the third's pics; right now I need to make experience countable.

Do you have any information on the groups that you'd like to release? Or would you rather wait. And, sounds good to me. Experience will definitely be needed.

I'm keeping that on the up and up for now, so I won't post in publicly, but if you'd like I can post a thread containing the information in the mod forum.

FW, is it that hard to say no to a awesome Pikachu like myself? You can say no if you really want. I'd love a sneak peek, but I'd rather wait at the same time. Geez, you're way too nice my friend. :P

My answer is... I'll wait until, what... July? Or was it August?

Already posted an outline :P. You can get an idea of what'll happen there. And, you'll only have to wait to July, while non-staff will be waiting til late August, or possibly sometime in the fall.

I would go with pidgey, Magby, and poliwhirl, also bellsprout is a really good idea.
