Although the concept seems a little out there, a Nokia phone, currently its name unknown, can supposedly harvest ambient radio waves to power itself. Of course, this is still nothing perfect - the phone takes quite a while in standby mode to recharge after a rather short phone-call, however it theoretically will offer you infinite power without any wires or outlets. The cell phone appears as though it will first be sold in three to five years.

Any comments?

=O I know Sony Erricson used friggin wires on the K-models as antennas for the radio, but this?

I am not really excited about it, though this may open doors to very new ideas that will be much more complex and different than now.

Great phone for radio talk show hosts, i guess...

But, wouldn't it screw with car radios and stuff?

It seems as though it only harvests radio waves that can't be used, so it would appear otherwise.

Radio waves contain energy? Also, if there were to be a lot of these mobile phones; wouldn't it take a lot of time to recharge one if each and every one of them was harvesting radio waves?

Hm... You make a good point. It could definitely result in each phone not being able to harvest as much. Just the same, any kind of electro-magnetic wave does have energy, including light (light I believe yields more power per area per time than radio waves).
