Adding to the Gym Leader and Elite Four Rosters, I think GSC really lacked good early game Pokemon. Before Violet City, you only had your starter to rely on and a bunch of mediocre or bad Pokemon like Sentret, Ledyba, Spinarak, and Hoothoot. Although you could have gone through most of the game with them and their evolutions, I am hoping this is not the case for HG/SS with the possibility of a more difficult game.

The only "decent" and easily catchable Pokemon in Gold and Silver before Goldenrod city are Mareep, Wooper, Hoppip, and Poliwag (to Politoed). Hopefully, HG/SS adds more useful Pokemon such as Phanpy (added in Crystal), Teddiursa, or Aipom earlier in the game. :P

**Note that I did not mention any first generation Pokemon since I want HG/SS to focus mostly on the second generation.

I also agree on that. We need the game to be more difficult, with better Pokemon too.

Well, I would argue that based on Johto Pokemon only, you don't have much of a game. It was only with the extra Kanto Pokemon that you could really be successful. In fact, one of my most powerful Pokemon, Espeon, is a Johto Pokemon, but evolves from a Kanto Pokemon.

The game being based on just the Johto Pokemon wasn't what I meant.

I was saying that mainly Pokemon from the Johto Region should be available in the beginning of the game near New Bark Town.

I agree with Neo.
Also, the Johto region on itself in the entire game won't turn out successful due to the limited number of Johto Pokemon.
But, as Neo said, we want some Johto Pokemon to be available before New Bark Town.

Yes and again, not just boring old ones that aren't usually useful, but more useful ones such as Phanpy, Teddiursa, or Aipom.
