The fifth generation is now only a few years away, and its engine is possibly already being developed. However, what new game mechanics do you think would be good to see in this new adventure?
Ever since the beginning new game mechanics were being introduced. In the second generation, for example, a variety of new things were introduced. The special stat was split into special attack and special defense, two new types, dark and steel, were introduced, eggs and breeding became a popular subject, the battle tower became a way to put your skills to the test (though later in Crystal), hold items made battling just that much more strategic, berries became a useful way to power up your Pokemon, and the list goes on.
Later, in the third generation, many more interesting concepts were added. First of all, you could now have elaborate secret bases, instead of just a few decoration in your room as with G/S/C. You could also dive into the water, bike across tough terrain, and endure harsh weather conditions which even affected battle. Plus, Pokemon were now as complex as the DNA they were made of. They would have IV traits which right from the start could determine just how strong your Pokemon was going to be.
However, Diamond and Pearl didn't change the spectrum any too radically, with the only major battle-system change being moves didn't inherit their special or physical status from their type, however the pair of games, and later Platinum, did introduce the vast ranges of the underground, where secret bases could now be found, as well as Amity Square, an area where you could walk certain, albeit not all, Pokemon, not to mention the inclusion of the advanced Wi-Fi trading center, which made the game a world-endevour, not one merely among you and your friends.
In the Fifth Generation we may or may not see many new changes take place. However, what would you like to see? What exciting new never-before-seen features do you think should be added that make the content unique from those before? Should there perhaps be an expansive array of minigames, or should there instead be a more restrictive battling system. Instead should the battling-system become more free and like the Anime, allowing you to control how Pokemon battle with more than just moves. Maybe the restriction on how high-leveled Pokemon can become should be removed, meaning Pokemon can reach levels beyond the standard 100. What do you think?
