Which one of these is better?

I've only used Gameshark, so that's my answer.

But, I have heard of some pretty crazy AR codes, like shooting bridges out of your rocket launcher in Halo 2.

They both use a hex modifier, and a very similar, if not the same, encryption. However, I have also heard that the Action Replay allows for save game states. Essentially, to me, its which one supports raw hexadecimal.

Regardless, the only cheat device I've ever owned is the Pelican Monster Brain, which worked solely with the first six Pokemon games, however being that you could specify numerous mods without hex codes, and since you could make about 50 save file backups, I did find it a very useful utility.

Gameshark is more secure and should mess up your console less if it does,

however, AR allows saves and some radical codes.

So AR <3

I've used Gameshark and Action Replay before and I preferred AR. Now, I don't use cheat devices. I don't even use cheat codes for games anymore. Other than Grand Theft Auto games and that is only until after I've beaten the game. To be honest, I only used my AR on my Pokemon games after I already beat it. If I would have used it while I started, it would have sucked all the fun out of it.

That happened to me with the first Kingdom Hearts :(
