I noticed that, despite this game not having been officially released in the United States, there is no discussion thread for the game. So, here we go!

What are some of your expectations for this game?
What do you think the main storyline will be like this time?

Personally, I find this game quite entertaining! I've been playing it via emulator, and, despite it being in Japanese, have found it to be very fun!

It's renamed I think. It's new name is Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. I'm not sure though. I'm expecting it to have a longer storyline than the original Pokemon Ranger. I'm also expecting another D/P Pokemon transfer. I heard there will be three more. I also heard that you can choose a partner pokemon. There are 17 to choose from. Each representing a type. The choices are:

Pachirisu (Electric)
Munchlax (Normal)
Starly (Flying)
Turtwig (Grass)
Chimchar (Fire)
Piplup (Water)
Misdreavus (Ghost)
Snover (Ice)
Mime Jr (Psychic)
Gible (Dragon)
Croagunk (Poison)
Kricketot (Bug)
Sneasel (Darkness)
Cranidos (Rock)
Shieldon (Steel)
Machop (Fighting)
Hippopotas (Ground)

I'm thinking that the region will be called Almia for an obvious reason.

I did some research and found out more info. Here are some of the places in the game:

Chikore Village
Vien Town: The Ranger School is located here so this might be the starting point
Vien Forest
Pueru Town
Boil Land
Haruba Desert

There are side quests, too. There will also be a HP Bar for Pokemon. Instead of a counter for how many loops you need to make to capture the Pokemon, it shows a HP Bar. You can lift the stylus and take a breather without messing up your game. The thing is that the Pokemon are going to take more loops to capture. There's also going to be Multiplayer. It's going to be released November 10th, 2008 in the US. You can also ride Pokemon like Dodrio, Mantine, and Empoleon. There are a few downloadable missions. Also, there are three pokemon that you can, like Manaphy, send to Diamond or Pearl. There are still lot's of stuff in the game that haven't been revealed yet. If I get any news, I'll post it here. Also, here are some pictures:

This is what it would look like when you're capturing a pokemon. You can see the HP Bar under the Glameow.

You cannot choose your starter. You will always get Pachirisu. However, throughout the course of the story you can obtain more partner Pokémon, of which you choose one at a time to accompany and assist you. This can be useful in choosing a strategy, but I always kept Pachi.

I managed to complete the game in Japanese without understanding a word that was said. It's a very good game nonetheless. The Go-Rock Quads make an appearence, playing their music late in the story. Also, the capture system is much improved because each Pokémon has a bar you must fill up, and you can take the stylus off the screen, pause, and carry on capturing. This is useful against bosses who tend to use spread attacks, or Dark Pokémon who cause danger spots to appear randomly on the floor for a bit.

All in all, it's a very good game and is strongly recommended.
There are special missions you can download from the Wi-Fi, which allow you to capture Dialga, Palkia and Shaymin (who are released immediately afterwards). I have yet to find out about the possibility of obtaining Shaymin's Skye form, Manaphy and the other one for transfer to D/P.

You can choose your starter, but only out of the first 3.

Pachirisu, Munchlax, and Starly are the original starters. As the game progresses, you unlock missions to get all of the others.

In this game, the "New Look" is what you start out with. You begin in the trainer school and later graduate into another form.

I want to get this game... I didn't get the original one and now I don't want it because this one is.sounds far better!

You need to get the original. It'll be a crime it you didn't.

Just curious, what are Pachirisu, Munchlax, and Starly's partner powers?

Hmmmm I guess I might... Depends how much it costs at my local wal-mart...

Each has a poke-assist, but not a field ability.

Pachirisu's is the Electric assist. When you place the stylus on the screen, it will show a small bolt of electricity. A moment later, shock waves burst out, paralyzing the enemy.

Munchlax's is the Normal assist. When you use this assist, it adds more damage to the loops. Instead of doing 14 damage, you may end up doing 18.

Starly's is the Flying assist. When making circles, you'll see a small tornado appear and it will keep getting bigger, pulling in the pokemon you are trying to capture.

And Akai, Shieldon is obtainable, but not till later in the game. I believe you find him near Asosheru Forest.

Noted on Shieldon... I think I'm-a gonna get Pachi. I'm used to Plusle and Minun.

Sorry about the mistake with the starter Pokemon. xD
I'm probably going to get Munchlax. The poke-assist is kinda like the fighter poke-assist of the first Pokemon Ranger.

Akai
07-23-2008, 04:46 PM
Speaking of assist, will the starter partners have a more "powerful" assist? I know the electric field Pokemon only refilled the stylus power when the partner stunned enemies.

Kaboom
07-23-2008, 05:07 PM
Pachi's assist is very useful, but on an absolute scale it sucks. You get Pachi with 8 seconds of assist, and other Pokémon you can capture with more (I got one with 30 seconds of nothing but zapping the enemy Pokémon!)

I have more information on the game:

There are 3 Special Missions in which you can capture Pokemon that you can send to D/P and 3 Exra Missions in which you cannot send the captured Pokemon. When you send Manaphy over it will be an egg. It will obviously be level 1, but I don't know what moves it will know.

Special Missions:
The Manaphy Mission
It's pretty much the same as the first Pokemon Ranger. You find the Manaphy egg, someone will take it (this time a Happiny xD), and you have to retrieve it.

The Riolu Mission
A Riolu will be stuck on the roof of the Ranger School. It will then jump down and be caught be Team Yamiyami (I hope that's not their name in the English version xD). You then have to go after them and you'll end up trying to capture Riolu. After you do that and send Riolu over to D/P, you'll discover that Riolu knows the move, Aura Sphere. It's not supposed to know this move until it evolves into Lucario. Riolu will be level 30 with the moves, Aura Sphere, Shadow Claw, Bullet Punch, and Drain Punch.

The last mission will make you want to get this game even more.

The Darkrai Mission
Yes, you can get Darkrai. I was surprised to learn this. Anyway, the mission starts in Asoheru Tower and you have to go stop Team Yamiyami from reunite. Along the way, you come across Darkrai. It will be very useful in the future. I'm not going to spoil it. Just send me a PM and I'll tell you what Darkrai does. After the mission, you'll be able to send Darkrai to D/P. It will be level 50 with the moves, Dark Pulse, Dark Void, Double Team, and Shadow Ball.

Exra Missions:
The Dialga Mission
The Palkia Mission
The Shaymin Mission

I couldn't get the plots, but I know that the Shaymin mission will have something to do with a wedding and a Shaymin being in a bouquet of flowers.

I can't wait till I get the game and beat the Darkrai mission. Once I get Platinum, I'm going to get those three Pokemon into my game as soon as possible. Riolu and Darkrai won't listen to me at first because of their level, but they will later. :D

You repeat yourself a lot. =/ You've said that already.

I'm still curious on the partner Pokemon's abilities. Like the ones other than Pachi, Munch, and Star... Do they have different abilities than the wild Pokemon of the same type? Like Water. The wild ability is the bubbles... Is that parnter power like a tidal wave that temperarily stuns the wild Pokemon?

Kaboom
07-27-2008, 03:57 PM
As far as I can tell they have the same ability as those in the wild.

I want to know how to get to the Pokémon-obtaining missions. After all, I have the game with story mode completed already, so I want my specials!
