View Full Version : Pisaro's IP Thread
Instead of having poor Pisaro looking through the Mod Chat, I'm just going to make a new thread and post new member IPs here. Pisaro, you can even ask about some members, if you're curios. BTW: I was going to name this thread "Pisaro's Let's-Spy-On-The-Noobies Thread." :D

You are awesome for making this, just as you were for making the avatar and other cool stuff.
I just thought this would be a lot easier for you, instead of looking at each post in the Mod Chat.

Seems fake. =/

All right. The address leads to New York and it belongs to AT&T. The Pokezam.net domain is no longer used to my knowledge, so I wouldn't approve this or give limited access to prevent a large spam clean-up.
Yeah. If they have a problem, they can email SR or PokeMaster.

Actually it is used to a certain extent. However, if he doesn't own the address he will remain in the awaiting email group.
Um... Can you look up this user Pisaro:
Emerald Dragon
trahalin@sura.ru

According to the one site, the IP belongs to a company in Amsterdam. The address is .ru which means Russia. Last I checked; Russia and Amsterdam aren't the same place. So I'm going to have to put that person in the "no" column as well.
Russia and Amsterdam aren't the same place.
This made me giggle.
Pisaro, can you post a list of the .coms from other places. Like .ru is Russia. What are some other popular ones.

Gosh it's been ages since I remember all the spam names.
A lot of people user GMail for spam (what happened to when it was an Invite only service), Hotmail, and Yahoo are popular as well (although spammers tend to use hotmail.net and yahoo.net), cashette.com I remember was one, there were ones with porn names such as freepornxxx.com.
There are no other countries besides Russia that I can recall ever being on Bulbagarden or here.

Hm... I'll go ahead and delete him.
Seriously? Someone registered with <something>@freepornxxx.com?
Off topic: How come when humans have sex, it's called porn and saw as something forbidden, but when other animal have sex, it's a wonderful thing? =/

Yeah there were a few times when spammers used porn domains.
As for your question... I think it has to do with our language and society in general. It sort of relates to something George Carlin said
"How come when it's a human it's an abortion and when it's a chicken it's an omelet? It's just the weird standards we have established. The issue with porn is that it's just glorified too much.
(You should see sex via a CT scan. It's pretty interesting.)
BTW: Do you want some of the newest registers emails and IPs? I know a few registered over the past few days.

Sure. I'll update this post once you post the results.
Erm, which ones? I know you could have suspisions over some names.
EDIT: I found ten of the zero-post members. They're a lot more, sadly... but here's some.

Um... Guys, can we stop making a mountain out of a mole hill? Users are only a concern once they have proven their email, prior to that they will never be approved and will likely be deleted after a month. If they are in the "Not Confirmed" usergroup then you can post users of suspicion, prior to many will just sit there for a few months then be deleted.
Gee.... Thanks for ruining some fun. I don't know what happened to you, SR, but I don't know who you are anymore. :(

Well, I will admit as much that I have been a little stressed lately. Though, the idea in what I posted is to focus on the more important things, not to spend so much time and such small issues.
I'm just posting IPs. Pisaro may mind something. Like user dstore11. He's a little suspicious.

##Start Approach Number 2
The thing is that I'm the only one who deletes and approves users. If I have to follow up on everything that goes on in this thread, it will make things much more complicated. If you only post users who I will even have to consider approving, then it makes my job a lot easier.

Thanks for the posts Akai, I'll take a look and check things out.
On the other hand though, SR makes a good point. If users don't confirm their e-mail to try and make an attempt to spam, then there's no need to worry.
Also Pokemaster doesn't approve users? (I guess after my run, it's tough to give permissions to people who might abuse them)
I'll stick to just posting news and finding updates and making sure I finish projects that I should have done a while ago.
Although with that said, do you mind SR that Akai and I do these for research purposes? I don't want to pressure you into any decision making, so it is this all right just for leisure?

That appears to be legit. IP belongs to Shaw Cable (Canadian Provider) in British Columbia.
Also I took a quick look at your list Akai; I found four to be legit, five who I think are questionable. The legit ones (MasterPoke1, Pokemon_Master1, Tank, and Zak) all have between 96 and 99% certainty as to where the addresses originate from. The others seem odd based on their countries of origin, that is... American sounding names in places such as Ukraine and China.
So... am I doing right posting these? I know that dstore11 looked weird, and the email reminded me of some Unlimited Too store. (Ugh)

dstore11 registered on Serebii to sell cell phones, so I'm confident they're a spammer.

I never even heard of the country that this person originates from. Where is... Mauritius?
Though I think the better question to ask is: Have you ever seen a person use www. in their e-mail?
Yeah... this goober. :p
Mauritis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauritius) It's off the coast of Africa, apparently. I didn't even know they had computers there. Silly ignorant American. XD

I'm just going to write up an email approval thingy, I think Blue Host supports server-side perl so it shouldn't too hard. From there I'll set up something that automatically deletes users who haven't confirmed their email after a couple weeks. And finally I'll start this whole thing again: Please only talk about users who are awaiting confirmation, not awaiting email. It makes things so much harder instead of so much easier.
##endmethodthree
Aww... why can't we talk about them? With the previous "user", we learned where Mauritius is. We may be on Jeopardy and that could come up. XD

Ah my apologies SR. This thread is basically for posting sake to keep track on things. I didn't mean for it to be any sort of pressure on you to keep track of users. I guess the main thing is... all of us want the forum to be active so every time a user joins, we pray that they'll be both active and legit.
I didn't intend for the posts in the Mod chat and this thread to be a "SR you better look at this right now regardless of what else you have to do thread" though more of a "Staff discuss the latest user or users to join the forum to check to see if they are legit" thread.

Well, if you want to make it easy on me when you find an unlegit user who is awaiting approval, use bold red font.

It resolves to South Australia with an 85% certainty. While it's possible that this person could be legit; the name and numbers combination always gives me a warning flag. So file this under caution.

London, England. 94% certainty.
While the name is a bit weird, I would have to say legit.
I was curious on the name too. Maybe LuckyTackle is a new move we don't know about. Haha. Happiny learns it.

Lucky Tackle:
PP: 5/5
Hits the enemy with a forceful attack, may cause instant fainting.
Edit: Twilight without knowing anything I would file as legit. hydro_guy I'm not so sure of.
