SHOWTIME!
Johto Adventures!
Several years have past since May and Harley won a tied contest battle in Johto. The announcers suggested trying out as a trainer. May and Harley sighed with defeat, finally agreeing in something and went their separate ways. They finally meet back up when they select their first Pokemon. May chose Chikorita. Harley got Totodile. And a new trainer, Nashi, received Cyndaquil. Prof Elm suggested that they stick together, seeing how new Nashi was to the region and how new May and Harley were to the trainer life. Can these two work together and be the best in the region? Will they turn Nashi into a coordnator?

*BUMP* Time to start...
The sun rose. Prof Elm awoke and went to his little Pokemon. They were excited of their adventures they were about to go on. Chikorita hummed happily as she pranced to her bowl. Cyndaquil grunted with spunk eating his breakfast. Totodile calmly munched his food. Prof Elm smiled, "Well, all three of you are excited it seems." The Pokemon cheered. He nodded, "That's good. I'm sure your trainers are excited too." He saw them done with breakfast and withdrew them into their PokeBalls, setting them on a table for selection.
It was noon. May and Harley met up with a young trainer, Nashi, and went in together. They selected their Pokemon carefully. It was a surprise to all of them. May screamed with delight, seeing the sassy Chikorita. It reminded her of Bulbasaur. Harley did the same, seeing Totodile look around. Nashi pondered over her Cyndaquil. It startled her, watching the flames explode out of his back. Prof Elm gave them each a PokeDex, some PokeBalls, and Pokemon medicine, sending them off.

Harley let out a big sigh. "I can't believe I'm doing this... May, honey, we may have tied in contest, but you are so going to lose against me in gym battles." He giggled a little, walking to the head of the group. "Now, listen, I'm the oldest, so it makes sense that I'm in charge. Got it?"

As Harley announced something about being oldest, Nashi wasn't listening. She held her new Poke Ball at arm's length in front of her, admiring the shiny flame emblem on the front, then pulled her arms back toward her body for closer inspection. It was a swirl of warm colors, shaded with purple for depth. She fumbled at the edges with her fingernails, and realized that what she had thought was a hand-drawn sticker was actually an image tattooed onto the smooth surface of the Poke Ball.
When Harley ended with a sharp 'Got it?' Nashi looked up.
"Sorry, what were you saying? I kinda zoned out there..." she said, looking apologetic.
Harley groaned, but smiled a little, "Just nod and say yes. That's all you really need to do, honey."

Nashi was confused, but nodded anyway.
"Sure, sure. So... when are we going to start battli-" Nashi trailed off, distracted by a small brown Pokemon, balancing on its striped, bushy tail.
"What the...?" Nashi pulled out her Pokedex and opened it. There were several buttons, and it took a few tries for Nashi to get the thing to actually identify the Pokemon who was now sniffing at Nashi's feet.
"Sentret. The scout Pokemon. This Pokemon takes turns standing guard with others in its pack when it is time to sleep. It raises itself up using its tail to get a better view of its surroundings. If it spots an enemy, it cries loudly to warn its kind. When this Pokemon gets separated from its pack, it becomes incapable of sleep due to fear. This specimen is male. He knows the moves Scratch and Defense Curl," the Pokedex told Nashi.
"I learned nothing from that. Don't they have it in writing?" Nashi complained. Meanwhile, the sentret had perched himself on Nashi's leg and examined her socks with great interest. Nashi looked down at him.
"What do you think you're doing, you silly little nugget?" she said to him, smiling despite herself. The sentret simply looked at her, apparently highly amused, and tried nibbling the edge of her boots.
"Hey! Now that's where I draw the line, mister!" Nashi shook her leg slightly, and the sentret slid off and plopped on the ground, looking upset. Nashi groaned, then was struck by inspiration. She fingered the Poke Ball in her hand, as though making up her mind, then threw it in the air.
Cyndaquil popped out from it, landing lightly on the ground. Nashi whipped out her Pokedex again, and pointed it at Cyndaquil.
"Cyndaquil. The-" Nashi stopped the Pokedex by pressing an arrow button below the screen.
"This specimen is female. She knows the moves Tackle and Leer," finished the Pokedex.
"Alright, then. Cyndaquil, use Tackle, I guess," Nashi told Cyndaquil. The little Pokemon hesitated, then charged at the sentret, who was still sulking on the ground and hadn't anticipated the attack. It hit him dead on, and Nashi took an empty Poke Ball from her bag. She tossed it at the sentret, and it bonked him on the noggin before opening and absorbing him in a flash of red light. The Poke Ball wiggled lazily for a bit, then stopped. Nashi stepped forward to pick it up, then threw it and released her new Pokemon.
Sentret cried in joy and leapt onto Nashi's head immediately, gnawing contentedly on the rim of her pink hat. Nashi rolled her eyes, then recalled Cyndaquil. She attempted to recall Sentret, but he refused. He continued to chew on Nashi's hat, and Nashi rolled her eyes again.
"Well, I guess that answers my question."

[[Urk, sorry... I really got out of hand, didn't I? Ugh, I bet half of that didn't even make sense. D: I need to stop staying up so late... x.X]]
=P You silly little nugget. They JUST left the lab and you already have your second Pokemon. Kaboom's nearly never around. I should have refused him.

[[Sorry, but when I go to bed I tend to sleep for quite a while, and I am now on holiday so I'll be around a lot more. Stop jumping to conclusions, please!]]
May watched Nashi, surprised. Everything had happened so fast, and she hadn't learned much from it as a result...
In response to Harley's taking charge, she shrugged and said, "All right, I guess so. But when I get used to this whole Trainer thing, I am never going to lose to you, Harley. You got that?"
Harley steamed a little bit, "Why you, little powder puff!" He bit down on a hankerchief, growl. "My little Toto will smash your horrid weed!"

May smiled to herself and cuddled Chikorita. A soothing smell emanated from her Pokémon, and she became less aggressive.
"Well, we'll see. We can't predict the result of a battle."
Harley gave a huff and stomped down the path, "Come along kids... Follow me."

"Alright," Nashi complied, fumbling with her hat as Sentret tipped it over, apparently having a great time. She jogged a little to catch up to Harley, who was already several feet ahead of her.
He stopped and looked up, sighing sadly. There were several Ariados in the trees, lining it with webs. He remembered his Ariados, and was hoping he was okay where he was. In fact, he missed all his Pokemon: Cacturne... Wigglytuff... He let out another sad sigh and continued walking.

"Hey, wait for me!" called May. She bundled Chikorita in her arms and ran after the other two.
When she saw the Ariados, she squealed. "Bugs! I hate bugs! Gerremaway! Gerremaway!" She ran ahead, away from the trees.
(You're May, not Misty.)
"Calm down, squirt. They're just building their nest. And they're nowhere near you." He smiled, giggling.

Nashi looked up at the spider-like Pokemon, weaving silken webs.
"Wow. It's so cool how they do that. Their webs are all so pretty! And they've got real intricate designs, too," she noted. Sentret looked up from her hat for a fraction of a second, then resumed chewing on the edge.
The ariados were magical to Nashi. She'd always held spiders in high regard simply because they were able to weave webs like that. She noticed that Harley and May had gotten ahead of her, again, and she ran to catch up, again.

"Sorry, I had this nightmare about bugs and webs and me stuck in them... you weren't meant to see me flip..." She blushed.
"Anyway, where are we going, boss?" she asked.
"Cherrygrove, I believe. There's no gym, but it'll be a good start to make a team. Next, I think is... Violet City. That has a gym. Um, it's a Flying type, I think. Poor little May... Your weed will be cut." He giggled.

"Who says I'm always going to use Chikorita? All I need is a... a... oh, sugar. What's powerful against Flying?"
"Try a water type, like my strong Totodile." He grinned. "Don't worry, honey, maybe you can have a rodent like your headgear like our young friend."

"Water? You saying... hold on. Let me see..."
She flipped open her Pokedex in the vain hope that it would have some information about type matchups. It didn't, but it did say that most of the time logic was all that was needed to judge.
"Umm... well... gosh, this is hard. I am never going to be a decent Trainer. Errr... Oh, I remember now, electricity! I remember seeing that battle yonks ago, and... ah, I get it! Oh, wait, are there going to be any Electic types? I think a Pikachu'd be soo good to have!"
(Yonks?)
"Hmm.. I don't recall any electric Pokemon around here. It's a pity. I really wanted a cute little Elekid."

[[Yonks = a very long time]]
"Hey, there might be a migration thingy.. we might come across some unexpected Pokémon..."
"Maybe. Let's just worry about getting to Cherrygrove. We can get a room together." He stopped and turned around, "Hey, squirt! Come on."

Nashi went to catch up again. [[Hehe, I'm so slow... >.>]]
"Wait, the first Gym is Flying-type? If you need an electric Pokemon, I think there are Mareep near Violet City. My mom mentioned it once," she put in, hoping she was on the right topic. Sentret began to slide off her hat, and she sighed and shoved him back onto his proper perch.
Harley's gaze moved to Sentret. "Hm... What is this thing?" He searched his PokeDex, "...Sentret. Ew, just a rodent. It's common too. How boring."

Nashi frowned, at the same time as Sentret.
"Gee, thanks. Such a nice thing for you to say," she said sarcastically, walking past him. She sat on a large rock and let Cyndaquil out. Her Pokemon yawned, as though she had been sleeping inside her ball. She looked up at Nashi, then took in Sentret, who was making faces at Harley. Cyndaquil looked scandalized, and turned away, flames leaping up on her back. Nashi reached toward her and patted her head.
"Aw, don't be like that! He won't get back in his ball, and he likes eating my hat. What am I supposed to do?"
"Quil?! Cynda, cynda cynda! Quil quil cynda!" retorted the Pokemon. Nashi had no idea what she had said, but she took her tone to mean that she was jealous.
"Oh, come here!" she said, lifting little Cyndaquil and setting her on her lap.
"It's not my fault he won't get in the stinking ball. And to be honest, he's going to get sick from eating my hat. I don't think polyester is very good for sentret to eat," said Nashi, giggling a little. Cyndaquil was still a little upset, but she seemed to feel better from the idea that Sentret might fall ill. Nashi scratched her under her chin, and the flames on her back quieted slightly as she relished in the contact.
"C'mon, we've got to get going. You wanna get back in the ball?" Nashi asked. Cyndaquil shook her head furiously, and snuggled closer to Nashi.
"Aw, okay. Let's go." Nashi cradled Cyndaquil to her chest and got up, walking further down the path.
"'Kay, we're going," she called over her shoulder at Harley and May.
"Come back here, you little nugget!" He ran after her, tripping over something and falling flat on his face.

Nashi turned around and laughed. Sentret was on the verge of tears, and Cyndaquil's back flared up a bit as her chest heaved with silent laughter. Nashi tried to stifle giggles as she went to help Harley up.
"Oh my gosh! Heehee... are you okay?" she asked, her voice cracking with suppressed laughter.
Harley was in tears from a nearly broken nose, "Ouch... what did I trip over?" There was a low growl from the bushes. A long black tail was sucked in and horned head poked out. An angry Houndoom snarled, inches from Harley's face. He stared at the evil looking Pokemon, paling greatly.

"No!" shouted May. "Chikorita, get in your PokéBall, quickly!"
"Chiko!" refused the little Grass Pokémon.
"Please! Just get in!"
Chikorita stubbornly refused to enter her Ball. She stood boldly before the Houndoom, challenging it.

"Oh... my... gods..." breathed Nashi, all traces of humor and color drained from her face. The houndoom snarled at her, suddenly aware of her presence because of her speech. She stepped in front of Harley, shielding him, or so she hoped, from this large and furious Pokemon. Cyndaquil leaped from her arms, and Sentret finally relinquished his post on Nashi's hat to join her. They crouched, their tiny muscles tensed and ready to spring. Cyndaquil shared a look with Sentret and he nodded.
Nashi could tell that they were going to fight, and from the looks of Chikorita's battle stance, so was she. Nashi turned to look at Harley.
"You okay?"
He nodded, "What is that?" He got up and checked his PokeDex, "...Houndoom. My, my... Such a nasty Pokemon." He looked at it, then his PokeDex again. "You two, call your Pokemon back. This one is mine. Totodile, sweetie, it's showtime!"

"I've been trying to get her back!" cried May. "But she refuses! I don't think she wants to back down at all..."
"May, honey, force her back. She is your first Pokemon and you can't even tame her." He giggled.

"... No. She wouldn't refuse if she weren't determined. I can feel that she wants to fight, and I must let her. After all, she needs to become stronger..."
"But I found it first! If you stole it from me, you'd be like those losers: Team Rocket!"

"Hey," said May as she winked. "A wild Pokémon's everyone's property. All right, Chikorita. Since you're so determined to fight it, just don't use any Grass attacks. Go in with tackles and anything else you know."
"Chikorita!" called her Pokémon. The Grass-type looked so small before the Houndoom, but she wasn't afraid and lunged forward with a powerful Tackle.
Harley glared at her, withdrawing Totodile. He shoved his hands in his pockets and walked off, sulking.

May smiled to herself. She didn't like Harley's way of taking leadership, and so she was happy to have won the argument.
Meanwhle, Chikorita was slowly winning against the Houndoom, against all odds. She was small and agile, and the Houndoom was big. She had an advantage, and was using it as much as she could.
(Harley is seriously leaving. Act more like May. She's NEVER been like that to Pokemon. In fact, all her Pokemon follow her. She's never really caught one.)
Harley sighed, turning around, "Totodile! Water Gun!" The little blue Pokemon launched an attack on Houndoom, drenching it in water. Harley smirked, "Ha! I made the first attack. This Pokemon is mine now. You can't catch it, May honey" He walked up. "Totodile, sweetheart, another Water Gun!"

Nashi sat and watched, though Cyndaquil and Sentret still stood poised for battle.
"C'mere, you guys. Harley's got this one. If he needs help we can ask to help him, okay?" she called. Her Pokemon reluctantly joined her and watched in awe as Totodile launched another burst of cool water at the large black dog.
Totodile pranced around, blasting Houndoom with the water. The fire Pokemon was getting vexed from the weakness touching it. With a snarl, he tackled Totodile and countered with a Bite Attack. Totodile cried in pain, sending a scratch across the hound's face. Houndoom barked in pain, whimpering. Harley got closer, "Ok, hun, one more Water Gun!" Totodile obeyed and blasted Houndoom. The dog stumbled back, whimpering. Harley called upon a spare PokeBall and threw it to Houndoom. The orb hit the Pokemon, opened and withdrew the Houndoom. The PokeBall wiggled a few times and came to a stop. With a smirk, Harley picked up the PokeBall, flashing it to the younger trainers. "See, kids... That's how you catch a Pokemon."

Nashi clapped, and her Pokemon cheered, too.
"Wow. A houndoom! Those are really strong, you know. You'll do well in Gym battles with one of those," Nashi complimented, "But we should get going now, shouldn't we? It's starting to get dark..."
He let out a laugh, "You're thinking I'm going to use this in battle. Oh, no, no, dear. I'm training this beauty for contest." He snuggled the PokeBall. "But, yeah, we should get going. I am not spending the night outside. Dreadful!"

"Alright," Nashi agreed, though she was pretty sure the entire point of this was for May and Harley to battle. She pulled an electronic map from her pack. She examined it for a moment before deciding their direction.
"We've got to go that way for about twenty minutes," she said, pointing to her left. She started down the path.
He put an arm around Nashi. "Well... I'll let you lead the way this once."
