Alright, I do believe that many people are well aware of the suckish eternal battery in these earlier games. You know, the eternal battery that eventually dies and stops you from saving in general.

However, some people are not aware of this yet because it hasn't happened to them as of yet. Why? I dunno. Some batteries last a little longer than others.

So, has this happened to you yet?

It's happened to me on my Red, Silver, Crystal, Yellow, and a few other non-related games.

Now, the big question...

Have you fixed the eternal battery yet? <==Notice larger font!

I haven't. :/ I've read multiple guides on how to fix the battery, but I know right now that my dad won't fix and and I'm surely not touching a hot soldering iron!!!

What about you?

I can't say for sure at the moment, but as of about a month ago when I put my games in the attic (I always play the old pokemon games using an emulator now), my Pokemon Yellow, Pokemon Gold, and Pokemon Silver games all worked fine. In addition to that, the Internal Clock in both of my Second Gen games, which I believe tend to go bad after 6 years were fine.

Darn you!!

Well, lucky you. :P Even if it goes bad after 6 years, all my 1st and 2nd generation games are beat. x.x

My Yellow version is alright. My Red and Blue are lost, but I'm willing to bet they're have the battery problem too, if I found them and tried to play them. My Silver's messed up, and my Gold and Crystal are like Red and Blue. :P How do you fix them? I want my Silver back. >.<

No, and my Gold and Silver already died a few years ago and all my data was erased. Its a bummer for my Silver it was my pride. All my best pokemon and stats were on that game. I had not known about the internal battery yet. It had happened to my Gold first when I returned from seeing my BFF at her college. I emailed my expert guy friend to ask what was wrong and that's when I found out.

Crystal and my first generation games are still working fine. Although I have concerns about my blue once in a while. My guy friend says Gold and Silver have the weakest batteries.

So its the eternal battery
All the data of my Gold and Silver was gone and I didn't know how or why, I just thought it was broke.
But now I know that it is the eternal battery that died.
My gold was the first pokemon game that ever I played and with my silver I had a shiny kingler (first and only shiny I ever got).
My crystal is still fine thought.
I would be nice to know how to fix them.

I know all of my three copies of Gold died, Silver died and Red died. I gave Blue, Yellow and one copy of Crystal to my girlfriend for her birthday, and she hasn't said anything about them dying.

Also, my Dragon Warrior III is still living, but I'm afraid it'll die soon. v_v

The save files on R, Y, G and C constantly corrupt, and the internal clock has run dry on my Sapphire.

My Red, blue and Yellow are ok although my blue did give me a scare once. I had started a new game. I on my way either to or from getting Oaks Parcel. I think it was from. I got into a wild battle with a pidgey on the way, and beat it with my squirtle. Then right when it learned bubble the picture faded and the game went out. At first I thought it was my gameboy but it I had just charged it and it was still on when it happened.

I started another new file and it hasn't done it since. But I am worried it was the first step of it going out completely. And I actually really like my current game on it. :(

Don't lie. If your games are 10 years old, they've died.

Some games are 10+ years and still going on. I know my DragonWarrior III is 12 years and still good.

We're talking about Pokemon game time batteries. They could be different.

O.o It's the same hardware, how could it be different?

Don't lie. If your games are 10 years old, they've died.

How do you know they're lying, they never said how old their games are. You don't know anything about their games so its rude to call them a liar. It just so happens that my yellow is pushing ten and still fine. Please don't try to call me a liar too. I hardly ever lie.

This is exactly why nintendo should make remakes of G/S

Hmm, I know! Instead of making people fix the battery, they should just get a remake out already. X.X

I do like the classics, though. :3

There is a big discussion about this elsewhere, can't remember where though. I agree. A G/S/C remake is just what we need. Crystal just doesn't cut it for the most advanced Johto game.

Mine are still going, although I had to repurchase all but Silver due to the games getting lost. The gold I bought is dead, sadly x.x

I am going to go replace the battery in my gold soon, then trade my shiny Ampharos from silver onto it to save him. Or find some way to copy the data to my computer

You have to unscrew the back of the game with a small screwdriver. There's better directions out there if you search for them.

I played a friend's Blue cartridge and never had a problem, and transferred them over to a new Yellow cartridge, that I changed the battery on. For some reason, the case never seem to be fully shut (it always had a small gap between the two parts), and when I pulled it out of the gameboy, once, I think I jiggled the battery and it corrupted my data.

I also took preventative battery measures before starting the Crystal cartridge I recently bought, and it's worked perfectly. In each case, I popped the battery out of the small solders attaching it to the leads and used tape to secure the new battery.

I could tell I did a better job on the Crystal game than Yellow. I would say the main trick is getting the leads flat again after fiddling with them to break the solders. I used pliers to flatten the bends out, but I took a lot more time and care with Crystal. Having flat leads means the battery is connected better to the circuit and it makes for a more secure grip for the tape.

Also, the G/S/C battery is a 2025, which is a lot larger than the 1616 found in R/B/Y. I think it helped having more surface area to stay stuck to. I sandwiched the battery between the two leads and taped around it. It actually looks a lot less ghetto than it sounds, if you do it right!

The NUMBER ONE problem I had was just getting that stupid screw (on the back) off to open it up. I actually special-ordered a few screws from a local hardware shop so I could replace those screws in my cartridges, in case I ever needed to get in there again. It was definitely worth it.

Anyway, hope that helps someone. If anyone has any questions about my adventures with replacing the batteries, just let me know! :)
