View Full Version : Summer Movies 2008
Well, May is here, and another start of summer movies! Awesome blockbusters and long awaited films for the movie fans everywhere.
Here's a small list of the summer movies. Unfortunatly, I lost some of the release dates, so if you know them, please tell me. Thanks.
Indiana Jones (and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) - May 22 - After the Indy Jones trilogy, you'd think that Prof Jones would be done... NOPERS! I'm not sure if you could call this a remake, since it's not, but the Indy fandom was some time ago. Could this be like the Star Wars trilogy, and two more will come after this? Anyway, the summary of the movie, I think, (I'm not much of a fan) some crystal skull was stolen and its up to Indy to bring it back safely.
Speed Racer - May 9 OUT NOW - *sigh* I hope this doesn't end up like Godzilla, or any other anime/Japanese based media they make into a movie. This is supposedly the life of Speed Racer, and how he became a racer or something. I really have no idea what this movie's about. I was lost in all the SFX color and race scenes. Haha.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - May 16 - The last book in the series, the storyline is pretty clear in the trailer. "One year for them... 1300 for Narnia." Yes, there is another war. Can't Narnia stay out of trouble? Haha. The Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe was good, and since this is a sequel, they have to top the original. I'd watch it, only for the SFX.
Kung Fu Panda - June 6 - I've seen this advertised for the longest time. I'm so happy a trailer is out for it. Jack Black plays a special "chosen one" panda... That's about all I know or care about. It's from Dreamworks, the same people who brought you Shrek, so this may be somewhat watchable. I know there's a message in there somewhere. I hope it's worth watching.
The Dark Knight - Unknown - Another Batman movie. I'm not big on the superhero movies, but this has Joker, so I might. He's my favorite of the Batman villains. This movie will be huge, but from the trailer not much can be known. I think... think that Joker has some kind of city-wide doomsday thing and Batman has to save them, but is with war with himself. More to come...
Hancock - Unknown - I am so watching this. Why? One: Will Smith. Two: WILL SMITH! He's an awesome actor and now he plays a superhero... but not just any superhero. He'd rather be napping than saving the world. Of course with this lazy attitude, he screws up at times. More to come...
Get Smart - June 20 - Based off the old sitcom, yet another movie to ruin everything.
More movies to be added.

Same here! (: I can't wait for that.
I don't know if this counts for a summer movie, but I saw "What Happens in Vegas.." with Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz. It was a good movie, though it wasn't as funny as I thought it would be.
I don't know if this counts for a summer movie
I count summer movies as mid/late May - early/mid August.
In fact, Speed Racer shouldn't be up there, but it's getting called a summer movie for some reason. =/
"What Happens in Vegas.."
Ashton needs to go back to Punk'd. He's not a very good actor. He's always in these kinds of movies.

Really, who has the money to go see all of these movies? x_x I'll just wait for the DvD releases and rent them.
You should really be a girl and find a really nice guy. My ex-boyfriend paid for everything. It was a little annoying. >_>
Well, if I were you, I'd try to start a movie club or something with 4-5 members, and every week someONE pay for the movies (no snacks). This can happen every week, or every other week. How does that sound?

I'll be your boyfriend, Cary. ;)
Well, so far, Iron Man is still pwning, and will probably pwn all of the Summer movies!

Um....No thanks, Alexi. *inches away*
I don't know too many people who are interested in seeing movies like that. The only movie I'd want to see in theaters is Speed Racer, just because of the special effects would look more impressive there than on my tiny little TV.
I'll be your boyfriend, Cary.
*cries in a corner*
I'm still going to Narnia. It's getting good reviews.

:( Alexi will pay.
Reviews has nothing to do with anything. It's just an opinion. And generally, my opinion differs greatly with that of professional reviewers.
>_> Well if a bunch of different people who rate movies likes it, then I'll give it a shot. I know most of it is taken out of context, but Narnia looks good, and the first one was awesome. I just wished they went through the series, not just picked on the third and last book. x__x

Eh. Maybe they just decided to make the whole Narnia series out of order, because that makes a whole world of sense. :D
Another movie theater problem of mine is that no theater around here is open past midnight. :(
Really? What about those special movies that start at 12:01 am? I know when Harry Potter comes out, the hype is enough for them to run a midnight show. I think Indiana Jones is doing something like that. It's happening here.

I go out waaay past midnight. I'm usually out of the house by 2:00. Everything except Denny's, 7-11 and various gas stations are closed.
:D Akai's house is always open. We can play Twister and watch Hairspray. XD
I know it's not a summer movie but I flippin' want to see HP and the Half Blood Prince. (Nov 18 2008)

Ew, Hairspray.
I can't stand HP, mainly because it's about fantasy witchcraft, and I hate fantasy witchcraft.
Yeah. The movies ruined the books. I just like teh Snape.

I know! Totally unneccessary, and this may sound slightly cryptic, but it doesn't look so good.
I'm ready to see Kung Fu Panda with my friends a week from now! Has anybody seen it?

I haven't seen Kung Fu Panda, but I want to see that and Hancock. Will Smith is in it. And he plays an alcoholic superhero. What's not to love?! - fangirl squeal-

No, but I want to :D
Hancock - July 2nd (Saw the previews during 10,000BC and LOVED it. Poor whale. lol)

@SE-I saw it and it was funny. Lots of things in there that you'll love. I went to see it with my friends and we thought it was funny.
@Akai-I know! The whale gets thrown at that boat! What about poor people on the boat? lol
Who cares? XD As far as I know, it's "Save the Whales", not "Save the Peoples". ^_^
I just got word (not a summer movie) but the long awaited DBZ live action movie is FINALLY coming out... kinda. I was told (keyword: told) that it was coming April 2009 and it would be DB, not DBZ. But!... if was sequel was made that the villain would be either Frieza or Cell. I'm pulling for Freezie.

I just wished they went through the series, not just picked on the third and last book. x__x
Hmm... I'm pretty sure that prince caspian was the fourth book.
My friend saw Kung Fu Panda. He said that it was really funny... Jack Black suits the role of the panda too.
About the HP movies, I don't like the newer ones much, but I always have to see the next one... Somehow... But anyways, the screenplayers in it are really bad. How could they kill Dobby out of the fourth movie?!? And there was no mirror in the fifth which would cause complications... >_<
Hmm... I'm pretty sure that prince caspian was the fourth book
Oh. Heh. I must have been thinking of something else. You know how book-movies are.
On the HP, I agree. They cut too much out. Like in the fourth, you said Dobby. He was actually helpful! And in the maze. I wanted to see more challenges, like the sphinx's riddle. In the fifth, ugh... I know JK said it was too long, but they kind of ruined it. Poor Ron, and his Quidditch. AND SNAPE WAS IN THERE A TOTAL OF FIVE MINUTES!! (I know. I saw a YouTube vid. =P)
Hopefully in HBP, he'll be in there more, since he is kind of in the title.
Welcome back, BTW. ^_^

Wow.... only five minutes? Anyways, quidditch has pretty much been knocked back after the third movie. I hated it how he Harry didn't have to encounter anything in the maze. I would have liked to see the sphinx and the blast-ended screwt.
Well, lets look at the pluses of the movies!
-Dobby doesn't die in the seventh... Whoopee!
Um... I think that's it.. O_o
Oh yes, I've also seen the new Indy movie. It's pretty good. Has anyone else seen it? But I think that
The flying saucer at the end that takes the aliens away didn't suit the series well.

Eh? Are you speaking of the movie? The sixth isn't even out yet.

Ah... I'm just talking about all of them in general. Current and unmade.
I suppose.... I found some screenshots from HBP. Check them out.
Snape and Draco (http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd272/AMESatterfield/snapedraco.jpg)
Slughorn party (http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii233/River_Tam77/edp-promo-oclumencia.jpg)
It looks to be a yaoi heavy movie of Draco and Snape. XD

Hmm... Is that slughorn left of snape in the second piccy?
I think so. ...I'd imagine him fatter, like his fan pictures.
HobbesI
06-15-2008, 05:13 PM
I'd think so too... His face doesn't look wide enough, and he's not fat in that picture!
On the other hand, maybe it isn't slughorn.
o_O It could be a Slughorn costume party! Hahaha.
He could be fatter. He is hiding behind someone, ...kinda.
HobbesI
06-15-2008, 05:28 PM
Yes... He could be thin on his right side and fat on his left side. That side is behind snape. You never know...
Maybe the movie makes gave him Slim Fast.... but it's magicky, and it's called Slim Now! Hahah!

I'm really looking forward to The Dark Knight and Hancock
The Dark Knight because it's Heath Ledgers (sp?) last performance before killing himself. . . and I just really like the first one ^__^
Hancock because I loved Will Smith's past few movies. (I am Legend was really good)

Oh, gosh, that movie was the best movie I've ever seen... aside from Transformers and Pokemon 4Ever xDDD
I want to see Hancock too. And I think it's Hellboy 2 that's coming out sometime in July which I want to see really badly.

When I saw I am Legend, I didn't like it much. I had read the book (The old one) beforehand and I thought that the storyline in that one was better. But I want to see Hancock too because its a Will Smith movie!

Has anyone seen a preview of Eagle Eye? That looks really good to me.
HobbesI

Yeah, but the beginning made me think of the Matrix opening. Oh yes and the voice on the phone sounds a lot like GLaDOS from portal. But putting those points aside, it looks great.
Has anyone seen a preview of Eagle Eye? That looks really good to me.
I saw. It was interesting... Shia LaBouf [sp] is in it. He's become a good actor, I guess. With Transformers, Disturbia and Indiana Jones, this movie should be worthwhile.

Yeah, he's made a long way from Holes. But I can never see the movies that intense with him as the actor. I don't know why, but I still see him as Stanley from Holes.
Shoot. I still see him as Lewis Stevens from the Disney series Even Stevens. He was also in I, Robot and a lot of other movies as minor "kid" parts.
HobbesI
06-28-2008, 10:49 PM
Yeah, I saw him in I, Robot. I don't really think he was needed though. Good movie...
He wasn't. But he was funny in the rebellion against the robots. xD "Dude, she shot at you with her eyes closed!"
HobbesI
06-28-2008, 11:05 PM
Ahh, one of the best parts.
On the topic of I am Legend, which one do you think is better? Book or movie?
I've yet to watch/read either. xD I feel a little guilty since I have a library card and the DVD to use.
HobbesI

You've got the I am Legend DVD and have not watched it? You should!
Yea.... I haven't watched a DVD or gone to the movies in months. T_T
