A quick summery: Naruto wakes up one morning to find he is no longer in Konoha, but rather, a strange and foreign town called Liberty. He has no idea how he got there, where he is or how to get back home. He meets people who look and act like his friends - but are not his friends. How is Naruto going to get himself out of this mess?

Ch. 1

Naruto woke one morning in a sweat. He was covered head to toe in perspiration and noticed he had thrown his covers off. When he looked at the discarded blanket at the foot of the bed, a sudden realization struck him. He was not in his bed! He looked around the room only to notice that he was in a simple two-roomed cabin. The room was hot like the hot springs outside of town. No wonder he was sweating!

Naruto carefully got out of bed and went to the window. He pulled back the flowery curtains to reveal to himself that he was no longer in Konoha. Instead of the lush green trees and colorful buildings, he found himself looking out into a dusty town only a fraction of the size of Konoha. Horses were standing in front of various buildings marked “Mr. Richard’s Fine Foods”, “Livery”, and the most prominent, “The Silver Dollar Saloon”.

He ran into the next room. He saw that there was none of his furniture from his house – only a single rocking chair in a corner of the room. The window in this room had the same flowery curtains in front of it. A huge fireplace was in the center of the room and about ten feet from it was a small dining table. A black pot sat next to the fireplace, a wooden spoon rising from inside it.

Naruto slowly made his way to the pot and looked in. There was some kind of tan-looking substance in it that didn’t smell too bad. He dipped his finger in the pot and got a fingerful of the stuff. He tasted it and realized it was oatmeal. He had once had some when he visited Sakura’s house and he really likes it. Whoever had made this oatmeal had already added sugar to it, and it tasted wonderful.

Naruto dug into the oatmeal and finished it off within fifteen minutes. He let out a satisfying burp and smiled to himself. He had almost forgotten where he was until he looked out the window again. But this time, the feeling that he had no idea where he was, nor any idea how to get back, began to settle in and he began to panic.

He ran to the window to see if he could find anyone he recognized. But almost immediately, there came a knock to the door. Naruto quickly padded to the door and opened it. On the opposite end stood Hinata. Well, she looked like Hinata. She had Hinata’s blue hair, although it was a lot longer, and her same lavender eyes. She even had Hinata’s slight blush and shy smile.

“Good morning,” she said quietly. “May I come in?”

Naruto was unsure if he should let her in, but he did so anyway. She went straight to the black pot and looked in.

“You have quite a healthy appetite,” she commented. She looked back at him, and he only nodded. “I wasn’t sure if you would be able to eat all that.”

“You made it?” Naruto asked.

“Yes, I did,” she answered. She took the pot and spoon and brought it outside to a small pump. Naruto followed her and watched her as she expertly pumped the handle of the contraption. Water soon poured from the nozzle into the pot and Hinata washed the pot and spoon out.

“What’s your name?” she asked after a moment of silence.

“Naruto,” Naruto answered very honestly. “Are you Hinata?”

“I’m afraid not,” she answered. She poured the dirty water out of the pot and hung it on a nail sticking out of the side of the house. “My name is Holly.”

Naruto stood there in disbelief. He really was in a different place, but Hinata was here. Sure, she may not have called herself Hinata, but she was Hinata to him.

“How did I get here?” Naruto asked, trying to keep the desperation out of his voice.

“You were found just outside of town,” she said. “Sam found you and brought you in. I let you stay in my house for the night.”

So this was her house. It was just like Hinata to be hospitable. “Who’s Sam?” Naruto asked.

“He’s our late sheriff’s son,” she said. She sat down on a simple chair next to the door and looked out onto the town. “He’s very good with a gun. He should be. After all, our late sheriff was the best in the west. It’s so sad, what happened to him. God rest his soul.”

“What happened to him?” Naruto asked. He sat on a tree stump about a foot away from Hinata.

“His older son shot him in the back about a year ago and fled,” she answered. Her hands started to tremble. “The whole town heard the shot. Everyone ran to the sheriff’s house, but when they got there, all they found was the sheriff and his wife dead and his younger son hiding in a corner.” She wiped at her eyes. “Sam hasn’t spoken much since then. He lives with the old widow on the edge of town, if you want to speak with him.” She then got up and went inside.

Naruto stayed on the stump. Sam must be Sasuke, he thought. It sounded just like what happened to Sasuke back in Naruto’s world. Great, now he was starting to refer to Konoha as another world. But it seemed to Naruto that he certainly was in a completely different world. Hinata – no, Holly – had said he was found outside of town. Naruto decided he’s go and talk with Sam. Maybe he’d have information on just what the **** was going on.
