Veilstone Gym! Lucario vs Buizel
A while after Hikari’s first gym battle, Ash and Maylene are ready to face each other, both standing at opposite ends of the battlefield. The sky outside is very cloudy and it seems like it could rain at any time. After to referee has explained all the rules for the battle, Ash and Maylene prepare to send out their pokemon.
As Ash and Maylene are giving each other some words of luck, Dawn is once again cheering for Ash in her pink cheerleader outfit with pompoms. Ambipom, Pachirisu, Buneary and Piplup are also dressed up like their trainer, each cheering on Ash. The battle then begins with Maylene sending out her Machoke. As Hikari checks Machoke out on her pokedex, Ash sends out his pokemon for the battle, Staravia.
Staravia starts things off with a Quick Attack but Machoke blocks the attack with a Karate Chop. Staravia quickly retaliates with a Whirlwind attack, blowing Machoke back before launching itself in an Aerial Ace attack. Machoke however is just able to duck the Aerial Ace and strike back with a powerful Cross Chop attack. Taking this opportunity, Machoke begins to jab Staravia with a barrage of Karate Chop attacks. Machoke goes in to try and finish Staravia off with a Seismic Toss attack but Staravia suddenly recovers and dodges the attack with Quick Attack. Using the speed it had built up, Staravia finishes Machoke off with a swift Aerial Ace attack, completing the combination. Maylene calls her pokemon back before complimenting Ash on his impressive attacks.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket are once again searching for Ash and the group. Walking through the various corridors at the back of the gym, they come across a mysterious door. Upon opening it up, they find a master with his two pupils meditating on cushions. Sensing Team Rocket’s arrival, the master offers them a massage to which Jessie, James and Meowth gladly accept. However the massage is much for painful than they thought as the master and his two pupils give the trio a backbreaking, painstaking massage they’ll never forget.
Back at the battle, Maylene sends out her second pokemon, Meditite. The battle starts as Staravia charges in with another Quick Attack, however Meditite dodges with a Detect attack. Suddenly Meditite begins glowing with a white aura as it charges up an attack. Staravia quickly tries charging in at Meditite again however its attack misses once more thanks to Meditite’s Detect. Meditite soon goes back to charging up its attack up however this time Staravia counters with Whirlwind, blowing Meditite away. Despite this, Meditite regains control over itself and lands a Drain Punch on Staravia, knocking it back.
Staravia though is still able to battle and prepares to use its Aerial Ace attack. Once again Meditite is prepared for this and uses its Confusion attack to gain control over Staravia. It then slams Staravia hard into the ground and by the side effect of Confusion, confuses it. Seeing his Staravia slamming its head against the gym floor, Ash calls back his pokemon before sending out a replacement, Chimchar.
Chimchar makes the first move and lands a Scratch attack on Meditite, sliding it back. Meditite though is still able to battle and easily strikes Chimchar back with a barrage of Drain Punch attacks. After taking a few hits, Chimchar finally escapes from the bombardment of Drain Punches and tries to retaliate with a wave of Scratch attacks. However Meditite protects itself with Detect, easily dodging each and every Scratch attack Chimchar throws at it. However the Detect protection eventually fades away and Chimchar hits Meditite hard with Scratch. Chimchar quickly follows it up with a Flamethrower attack, scoring another hit on Meditite. With this, Chimchar curls itself up into a wheel shape before rolling at the flame engulfed Meditite with a Flame Wheel attack. Meditite though manages to fire out a Confusion attack, gaining control over Chimchar’s movements. Using this, Meditite drives Chimchar into a wall and confusing it.
Again Ash has no other option but to call back his Chimchar. He then tosses out another pokeball, calling out his Staravia to battle once more. Meditite starts things off with a Drain Punch however Staravia blows it away with a Whirlwind. Taking this opportunity, Staravia hurls itself towards the ground like a fiery torpedo before glowing with a bright blue aura. As Staravia charges closer and closer to it, Meditite tries to gain control over it with a Confusion attack however this time it fails. As a result, Staravia slams Meditite hard with its newly learnt attack, Brave Bird. The attack manages to knock out Meditite, leaving Maylene with only one pokemon left. Dawn begins to get excited on the sideline but Brock tells her that Maylene still has her best pokemon left and that Staravia has taken a lot of recoil damage from Brave Bird.
Maylene compliments Ash’s Staravia on its Brave Bird attack, which was perfectly learnt in such a short amount of time before sending out her last pokemon, Lucario. Ash decides to wrap the battle up quick and tells his Staravia to charge at Lucario with Brave Bird once more despite it being so worn out from before. Staravia does so, glowing with a blue aura to signify the Brave Bird attack. However unlike it’s fallen companion Meditite, Lucario manages to stop Staravia completely with Metal Claw, knocking it back and rendering it unable to battle. Brock and Dawn watch on dumbfounded at how easily Lucario was able to stop such a powerful attack in Brave Bird.
Ash quickly calls back his Staravia, excited at the challenge he’s about to face in Lucario. He then brings out his next pokemon Chimchar and as soon as the battle starts, the little fire monkey fires a wave of Flamethrower attacks right at Lucario. However Lucario easily dodges each and every one of the attacks with great ease thanks to its impressive speed. Chimchar then tries a front on approach and launches itself forward, towards Lucario with a Scratch attack. Lucario also dodges this without trouble before striking back with Force Palm. Chimchar though quickly responds with a powerful Flame Wheel, knocking Lucario hard with the attack. Chimchar prepares for its next attack but its suddenly mysteriously halted. Brock then figures out that Chimchar has been paralyzed by the side effect of Force Palm, striking a look of concern on Dawn’s face.
Taking this opportunity, a blue bone suddenly appears in Lucario’s hands for a Bone Rush attack. Using the bone it wields, Lucario smacks Chimchar hard repeatedly with multiple hits using Bone Rush. Despite still being paralyzed, Chimchar manages to dodge the assault from Bone Rush by borrowing its way underground. This though presents no problem for Lucario as it searches for Chimchar using its unique ability to sense the pulse and aura of all living things. After locating Chimchar’s position underground, Lucario fires an Aura Sphere at the exact location, blasting open the floor and forcing Chimchar to resurface. Taking this chance, Lucario quickly closes in on Chimchar before batting it away with a Metal Claw attack, knocking it out.
Ash calls back his fallen pokemon, thanking it for its efforts before bringing into his hand the pokeball of his final pokemon. He then throws out the pokeball and his Buizel appears, glaring at Lucario with a great determination to win. On the sidelines, Dawn is still busy cheering for Ash with her pokemon as Brock suddenly notices that his Croagunk’s missing.
Meanwhile after receiving their massages, Team Rocket are walking down the halls at the back of the gym is a bit of pain. They soon notice another room and immediately slide open the doors to what they think will be contain a rare and valuable pokemon inside. However to their surprise and dismay, it’s strangely enough that inside the room is a Croagunk seemingly attacking a large cauldron filled with a sort of fluid over a hot fire continuously with Poison Jab. Upon leaving the room a bit baffled, they see Brock’s Croagunk apparently waiting for them outside. They have a bit of a stall war at first before Croagunk decides to send them flying off through the roof and into the dark, cloudy skies with its own Poison Jab attack.
Back at the gym battle, Buizel starts to battle off with Water Gun but Lucario matches its power equally with Aura Sphere. The two attacks collide evenly, creating a large blanket of smoke and blocking the view of their opponent from both pokemon. However Lucario takes advantage of this and fires out a never-missing Aura Sphere, striking Buizel through the smoke. Lucario quickly follows this up with a flurry of Bone Rush attacks but Buizel with great athleticism dodges most of the assaults. However Lucario sneakily whacks Buizel’s legs, sweeping it off itself feet and knocking it back.
Buizel quickly gets back up and tries something that it had learnt from Dawn, the Aqua Jet combination. A wave of water begins to engulf Buizel as it launches itself at Lucario in the form of a water torpedo, causing Dawn to marvel at the combination she had taught. Lucario decides to meet Buizel head on and charges itself towards it with Metal Claw. This though isn’t enough as Buizel overpowers Lucario, thumping it back towards its trainer Maylene.
Buizel then leaps up into the air to send out a flurry of Sonicboom attacks right at Lucario. However Lucario begins to wield its bone once more and while skillfully spinning it around in its hand, blocks all the Sonicboom attacks that were launched at it by Buizel. As it glares with anticipation at Buizel, Lucario fires off three multiple Aura Sphere attacks in the same manner and Buizel fired the Sonicboom assault. Like Lucario, Buizel slickly blocks all the Aura Sphere attacks with Sonicboom while flipping around in midair. After seeing Buizel block all of its attacks and that it has its guard down, Lucario quickly manages to place its palm onto the chest of Buizel without any warning, surprising Buizel and its trainer. In a matter of seconds, Lucario blasts the surprised Buizel back with its Force Palm attack, just like it did in its last encounter against Piplup and Chimchar.
As its opponent struggles to get back up to its feet, Lucario prepares to finish it off with one last Aura Sphere. As Lucario powers up its Aura Sphere attack, Buizel has managed to at least get back up and stand. However something starts to appear in the midst of its hands. A blue spherectrical orb begins to light up as Buizel grins with new hope. With this, Lucario fires off its charged up Aura Sphere as Buizel launches its newly learnt attack, Water Pulse. The two attacks meet evenly in the middle of the battlefield as the two pokemon let out a growl of excitement.
The battle hurls into the final straight as Buizel begins to charge at Lucario once again with the Aqua Jet combination it had learnt from Dawn. Lucario once gain meets Buizel head on, only this with Force Palm. The two pokemon meet in the middle of the field with a stunning collision, knocking each back to the walls of the gym. Despite this, both pokemon leap up into the air, quickly responding to their trainer’s orders. Lucario and Buizel both fire off an Aura Sphere and Water Pulse attack respectively, creating a massive explosion and breaking open the roof of the gym, revealing the menacing clouds hovering above them in the sky. Both pokemon hurtle towards the ground and land with a thundering bang on the floor of the gym.
Lucario manages to recover first and charges towards Buizel with a Metal Claw attack, knocking it back. The referee begins to declare that Buizel is unable to battle but suddenly stops when he sees Buizel bravely getting back to its feet. The battle continues once more as Lucario races towards Buizel, wielding in its hands its bone used for a Bone Rush attack. Ash desperately pleads for his Buizel to dodge the attack coming from Lucario. However the stubborn pokemon ignores Ash’s orders with a shake of its head and stands perfectly still, waiting for Lucario. Brock and Dawn watch on with a nervous look as Lucario edges closer and closer towards Buizel.
Suddenly Dawn notices some raindrops beginning to plummet down onto the field as Lucario begins to swipe its bone. Just at this point, Buizel just manages to dodge the attack, only this time with greater speed as the rain starts to fall. As Buizel continues to dodge the Bone Rush attacks, Brock explains that Buizel’s ability Swift Swim has activated, giving it a major speed boost.
Lucario and Buizel soon head back to their respective trainers, ready for one last bout. The two launch themselves at each other, Lucario with Force Palm and Buizel with the Aqua Jet combination. However unlike last time, Lucario comes out of the attack the better of the two as Buizel tumbles back. Buizel though quickly gets back up to its feet as Ash notices that Force Palm once again has paralyzed one of his pokemon.
Despite its paralysis, Buizel manages to force out one last Water Pulse attack as Lucario charges towards it with another Force Palm. Buizel though has one last trick as it dives into its own Water Pulse attack, fusing with it and creating a new combination. Lucario and Buizel soon collide in the middle on the battlefield, producing a massive cloud of mist to enshroud the whole field. When the smoke finally clears, both Lucario and Buizel are left staring at each other with a look of gratefulness for a good battle. After a few nervous moments, the two pokemon fall back and onto the ground, unable to battle and ending the match in a draw. Ash and Maylene quickly rush into the middle of the field to check on their respective pokemon, congratulating them on a fantastic battle.
Later at sunset, Dawn asks the referee about if Ash would get the badge since the gym battle ended in a draw. The referee then posts the question back at Maylene since she’s the one that’s in charge of the badge for Veilstone Gym. She decides that Ash is deserving of his badge and after a quick nod from each of her pokemon, Maylene brings her hands out in front of her, holding something. Lying on a small platter covered in a crimson velvet is the prized Coble Badge. With this, Ash accepts the badge before doing his usual victory pose with his pokemon, shinning in his hand his newly earnt Coble Badge. And with this marks the end to another successful gym challenge as the sun continues to set on this chapter in Ash’s quest to conquer the Shinou League.
