2250: The idea of travelling in space make all the Pokémon in the land of Uthiopia to bubble with excitement.
2265: The first prototype rockets are launched. They failed, but excitement levels were higher than ever.
2290: Infernape becomes the first Pokémon to travel in space. Its journey lasted 30 minutes.
2301: Explorations began to chart the celestial system.
2327: Charting of the system is complete. None of the other planets seem to be capable of supporting life. It's all a bit of a let-down. Exotic holidays on another planet are ruled off the list.
2370: A team of Alakazam scientists have successfully constructed a spaceship motor that allows FTL (Faster Than Light) travel. Suddenly, new doors open, and possibilities explode, but the plans are kept secret until a suitable number of engines are available to fit the demand.
2371: A small ship crash-landed in Uthiopia. The body disintegrated, but the contents remained intact: rolled-up sheets of paper. They landed in some old Pokémon's back garden. The news quickly spread that they told of a treasure concealed somewhere in the far reaches of the galaxy. The excitement rose another notch.
2372: A revolutionary screw-up occurred: someone broke into the Alakazam's laborotory and made off with the secret plans. A few days later, they appeared on the Internet. That, combined with the stories of treasure, lead many Pokémon to build their own spaceships, but the vast majority failed for various reasons. Only a few actually succeeded, and only one would find and take possession of the treasure.
You, the player, are one of the Pokémon who is on the hunt for the treasure (collectively known as the Hunters). You must seek out the treasure and ensure that nobody else gets to it.
RULES:
1) This RP is meant to last for as long as possible, so don't just come up in your first post and say "I used a Scanner to find the treasure and took it home and spent it all", because that would totally detroy the RP. You must have adventures on planets, involving danger and excitement, or you can really be a Hunter and try to hinder everyone.
2) No Legendaries.
3) No killing anyone, because if you could they'd just come back to life anyway, 'cos this is an RP and not real life. Saying "I shot him in the head" is not good, whereas "I shot at him, aiming for the head" is fine.
4) When you join, you have just completed your spaceship and so your first post should be your takeoff.
5) The usual rules apply.

Name: Sparx
Species: Luxray
Gender: Female
Background:
She lost her parents soon after her birth: they fell to a ruthless band of Honchkrow. Nobody noticed her as she lay, near-dying, outside in the cold. Her only possession was a small pendant that had belonged to her father. It was scored with a bolt of electricity, striking a circle.
Then a Skarmory saw her and took pity. She carried her to her lair up on Metal Mountain, and cared for her. Several years later, Skarmory, too, was attacked and killed by Honchkrow. Sparx hadn't heard anything, but when she went to Skarmory's chamber and found her dead, she cried out in anger and sadness. As she made to leave the room, she noticed something on the floor. It was a pendant, identical to her own.
She had grown in that time, of course, and was capable of looking after herself. She evolved quickly, afraid that the Honchkrow might come for her next. Wherever she went, she always wore the two pendants around her neck.
A couple of centuries later, she learns of the treasure in space and, by asking a few subtle questions, discovers the existence of the FTL plans. She cobbled up a ship in her excitement, which fell apart the moment she started the engines. Sparkle Mk2 fared little better, reaching an altitude of twenty metres before falling back to the ground, Sparkle Mk3, however, was a beauty. Sparx spent three months working on it, and forgot to eat for some of the days, but it was finally ready.
The test flight was perfect, so she entered her ship and launched it. She began to rise up. Sparx was going into space!
The only clue as to the treasure's location was "in the far reaches of the galaxy". Fat lot of use that was. She'd have to try each planet one at a time.
Then again, maybe a scan of the environment could yield something? Sparx called up a scan on the supercomputer she had stolen from the laborotory, and initiated the procedure. The tests revealed nothing out of the ordinary, besides her own ion trail. Sparx sighed and closed the software. Clearly, she was the first to depart on the quest, and she'd have to start from scratch. She picked a planet at random and set off towards it.

Name: Shade
Species: Sceptile
Gender: Male
Background: Shade was always a lonely child, he was never cared for very well, but when he was able to become independant he became strong very quickly and sudenly people started liking him. He was never bostfull and is always striving to help others, but really LOVES a challenge! He can be fairly selfish, and when on a treasure hunt he gives people the ride of their life.
After hearing all the hype about there being some "hidden treasure" in space, Shade quickly went about finding out some more in-depth technicalities of the hype. After finding out about some Faster Than Light (FTL) drive that was being developed, he soon had a plot as to how to build a FTL SpaceShip.
After several months of building, a prototype of his ship was built. All tests went well, but the interfacing was lacking. 2 months later the final thing was built. It was a slick, glorious sight to behold! The first few moments were the most tense, but after getting out of the atmosphere things calmed a bit. He quickly ran a systems diagnostic with some software stolen from the FTL Lab after it was leaked onto the 'net, all systems fine. "Now", he said, "I wander, it seems as if someone's already been looking though this system, prehaps a short jump to the next using the FTL drive might be a good idea!"

"Well, I give up. There's no treasure in this sector. Oh, look, a shooting star! Hangaboutaboutabit! Shooting stars are only in an atmosphere! I need to investigate this..."
Sparx steers her ship closer and analyses the trail.
"That's an ion trail, all right. Looks like someone else is after my treasure! The nerve of some Pokémon! I've a good mind to chase after him and blast him out of the continuum, but I don't have time for that. Let's see. In order to scan for the treasure, I need to know what it is. Let's try gold first."
Sparx programmed the scanner to seek concentrations of gold in the sector. There were two, but both were in the form of ore. She tried silver, and found a single silver orebody. Platinum returned null. She couldn't scan for gems since they're just carbon complexes, so either this sector was the wrong one, or she'd have to search each planet.
"Who needs that aggro?" muttered Sparx as she punched in a new set of coordinates. She flicked her pendants idly during the trip, still pondering how Skarmory had come to have the same pendant as her father. It was too much of a coincidence.

Shade arrives in the next system after about an hour, and the first thing he notices is that there is a lot of disturbance.
As Shade's computer is voice activated, he says:
"Computer: would you mind running a scan of the region and doing a systems check?"
Computer: Yeh, sure, systems check underway....
After an hour of scanning, and a successful systems check, Shade desides to go exploring the first asteroid belt of 5 this system has in case the treasure that was described was there. Shade's search revield that the asteroids were made of a Carbon-based rock that can be filtered out on the scanner to be able to find other elements and compounds..... The search continues.

"Well, there's nothing here, either. I wonder how that other guy's doing? I fact, I ought to keep a tab on him, just in case."
Sparx traces Shade's ion trail and locates him searching the asteroid belt. She shuts down all systems that may leave a trace and drifts towards his ship. Sparx presses a button and a small projectile is launched at Shade's ship. It collides and sticks itself firmly to the hull.
Computer: Tracking module engaged. Testing communication...... Communication established.
"Good. There's no way that's ever coming off. Except when the battery runs out in about a hundred years. Now I can continue on my search."
Sparx moves the ship away from Shade's, moving so that her trail is mingled with the other. When she's far enough away, she enters FTL and heads towards an isolated star system.

Shade, at hearing a clanck, went and found that someone had put a tracking device on his hull..... Polarizing the hull shifted it a bit, but only that in conjunction with scraping the hull clean would shift it.
Next he went to check for new FTL/Ion Trails and found Sparx's. Un-interested, he just makes sure that he can find the same trail again when he visits other systems as that will spead the search up.
Next, after finishing searches of this system, Shade desides to jump to the next, preferably so that he trail will be mistaken for something in the asteroid field. He chooses a system 100 Light-Years away and twidles his thumbs for the next 5 hours.

"Hmm, there's definitely gold down there, apparently mingled with complex carbon-based molecules. Definitely some treasure down there, but is it the right one?"
Sparx pilots her ship down to the surface of the planet. The surface is vivid red and rocky. The air temperature was 25 degrees, and the atmospheric composition was similar to that back home, so she exited the ship and began to move towards the place where the gold was.
It was in a cave. Just lying there, shining, surrounded by dazzling garnets and lapis lazulis. She looked left and right, but there was no like form visible, so she walked over to it.
"Stop right there," said a voice.
Startled, she did so. Her instincts screamed for her to get out of there, but she stood rooted, not knowing what the owner of the voice looked like.
"Who are you?" asked the voice.
It was there, in front of her. She was certain of it, and yet there was nothing there.
"I am Sparx," she declared to the air. "Who... What are you?"
"Good question. I lost my mind one day and found myself here. Can you not see me? How rude of me."
Before her, a being that looked very much like an Alakazam materialised.
"I woke up, not remembering anything, in the middle of a wreck. Since then, I've been collecting shiny stones. There's not many, so I place great value in them. Where do you come from?"
"Another planet, in a land called Uthiopia."
"Uthiopia? That name is familiar... it comes to me frequently in dreams..."
The Alakazam lapsed into silence. Sparx let him concentrate.
"I remember... there were more of me... we made a machine to travel to other planets... I volunteered to test it, and then... nothing. Just blackness. But you, you have your own ship, do you not? Could you take me back?"
"No, I'm really sorry, but my ship was designed only for me, and there's no space for a passenger."
"No matter... I am content enough here."
Sparx leaves and returns to her ship. The treasure there had been the wrong one, but at least she now had the molecule code for garnets and lapis lazulis, so it hadn't been a waste of time.

As Shade exits FTL drive mode and enters into standard space in the system he chose, he is greated by a massive eruption of activity as the sun of the system implodes. He desides to quickly escape and jumps one lightyear to the next system. Then, after doing a systems check and comming out fine, he starts scanning about the system checking for obvious traces of gold, silver and diamond. finding plenty of it, but highly dispearced thoughout the asteroid belt of the system, he desides to go hunting round the seventh plannet, similar to his home, and makes sure that there is nothing hidden on that plannet before heading off to the system he just came from.
On arriving back in the system he finds that there is not much left of it and that if there was going to be any hidden treasure, it would be totally destroyed by now. Shade next desides to go to the system he has not explored in this area.

Sparx arrives in a nebula. She is just about to initiate a scan when her ship receives a telepathic message:
"I see there are two of you seeking the Treasure. Good. Now I shall provide a little help. The Treasure is not gold, or jewels, or unknown property of a valuable nature. It is power. Unlimited power. To gain this power you must possess the eight Octoliths. Find the Octoliths, and the Ultimate Power will be yours..."
"Well, that's interesting. I hope nobody else heard that. Octoliths, hm? I wonder where they are. Computer, identify the source of the message."
"Identifying........ The message emanated from a space station named the Celestial Archives."
"Set destination to the Celestial Archives, then."
"Affirmative."
The FTL drive powered up again and set off in the direction of the Archives.

Shade also heres the message, and after hearing it immidiately goes back to the system that just blew up and goes to where the sun should be, just to find the exact thing he was looking for.
(@Kaboom: What spell-check button? Where?!?! I no see a spell checker in sight!)

(The spell checker button is at the top right of the Quick Reply box - the blue tick with "ABC" above it, but I've just checked and it doesn't appear on FF. When you install it on IE by clicking the button, you can subsequently click the button to check spelling)

"Hmm... I'm reading another ship has been launched... containing a Piplup... No real threat, then."
Sparx pulled her ship into the Celestial Archives.
"Looks like this place was hit by an asteroid - that entire section is just floating debris. I'll go over there."
She landed her ship and left it. Ahead of her was a closed door with a small energy shield around it. She hit it with a small shot of electricity and the door opened. Clearly, the shield was to keep out small animals.
She entered the rooms beyond and began to search for anything interesting.
