Well, I’ve noticed that many of the members here are starting to be involved in role plays and many other literate arts. That’s a really awesome thing and we’re happy that you are. I’ve just decided to make this so everybody can enhance their role play skills and have a fun and crazy time learning.

RolePlay school will be divided into a few sections to make things more organized.

Learning Excercises
Students will learn how to literally role play in this thread, which will be called "the classroom". They'll learn how to properly punctuate, seperate paragrahps, and how to role play like one of those British gentlemen.

Tests
Mock roleplays, which will take place in other threads, will be called tests. They're simple tests that every student should pass because the "tests" are basically mock versions (that is, pleasingly simple versions) of role plays. The teachers will grade the tests and give back a helpful REVIEW (NOT a GRADE) to the student. Therefore, the tests can only benefit a student.

Final Exams
By the time the student has learned a great deal and has taken a few tests, the student will then take the final exam. The final exams are like an enhanced version of the tests; they're role plays the student will have to prove themselves in, although the final exams are truly complex role plays. The student will really have to impress the teacher (who will, once again, give a review of the student's role playing to them) to pass the final exams.

Don't worry about this, though; by the time you'll take the final exam, you will be a good role player. :smile:

Scans have revealed an abnormally high concentration of Dark Matter, which appears to have assumed the shape of... a spaceship? Hang on. (A spaceship? Are you certain? That's just impossible! Show me the screens... That's no spaceship I've ever seen... Where is it now? What do you mean you've lost it?) You still there? Good. Yes, it is indeed some form of spaceship, but it appears to be equipped with a kind of hyper-advanced Cloaking Device, and we've lost track of it. Last we saw, it was headed towards Uni-coords Epsilon-42-Gamma. We need you to gather some soldiers and set out in search of it. It may well be hostile, else it wouldn't be cloaking itself."

"Roger that. Any more details available at present?"

Sorry class. I had a rather complex fight with the pariah that was my worst enemy last night. :p Now, let's start the show.

Lesson#1 - Capitalization

Alright, capitalization is an important part of role playing. Why? Well, it makes you look smart and it makes you appear as if you're ready to role play....basically, if you don't capitalize the proper things, you'll look like a newb.

So, keep mind of these points. These are the rules of capitalization:


Sentences should begin with a capital letter.
Proper names should be capitalized.
The first word of a direct quotation should be capitalized.
Geographical names (any place found on a map) should be capitalized.
The important words of a title should be capitalized.
Official names or groups of organizations should be capitalized.Well, that's most of the rules you need to know in order to role play with literate capitalization. Well, maybe I went a tad overboard, but meh, whatever. :wink:

Alright everybody! I'm about to attempt to make a role play post using all the rules of capitalization I used here. This is going to be stupid, but who cares.

Example:

Scared to death, I hid behind the plastic plant silently. The forever blooming plant protect ed me from the two men who stood at the counter. After a few long milliseconds of anxiety, I figured out that they hadn't seen me and they were engrossed in their own conversation. I leaned into the plant and listened as they conversed about completely random stuff.

"No, he does not have an afro!" one of the men yelled at the other.

"Boris, you're a ******ed dumb bell. He does have an afro," the other one replied.

"Look on his album, 'Looking Out the Window'," one of them remarked back in retort. I started at him like he was an idiot, because he was holding the album out to the other right there.

"You're an idiot! That album is over 100 years old, and it was recorded in Africa," the second person yelled back.

"Well that makes you a Republican!" the taller boy shouted.

"....What?" the shorter one asked.

Well, this was stupid. I thought I would hear a fight, but I didn't. So, I creeped out from the plant and pranced over to Governer Karley's room.

Not bad, but just two small errors:

"for insulting him, He depromoted": Either the "he" shouldn't be capitalised, or the comma should be a full stop, and the opposite of "promoted" is "demoted".
"he would'nt": misplaced apostrophe; should be "he wouldn't"Just another capitalisation rule since this is the Pokémon RP forum:
The name "Pokémon", Pokémon names, attacks, status changes and types should all be started with a capital letter.
Example: "The Blaziken, a powerful Fire Pokémon, used Flamethrower on the Venusaur, which, as a Grass type, was Burned, halving its Attack."

@SE: You got a couple of typos in your example! :p But all the capitals are fine, and that's what this lesson is about.

I'd say that I was fairly secure on capitialization, for instance (An exserpt from an OGame forum):

At hearing Zeoul being in need of assistance DX-MON sent a quick, short sharp "ping" to Adz's radio saying:

DX-MON: I'll be back as soon as posible, gone to help Zeoul.

Then when back on the line to the survivour named Rani:

DX-MON: Ok Rani, what's your current co-ordinates?
Rani: 10 clicks to the east of where you are, Zeoul says
DX-MON: Ok, on my way. You'll see me in a minute.
Rani: Thank you!

He fires up the engines of his ship at that and, at a very low altitude, flies to where Zeoul is in need of the big-guns

And yes, OK is one of those words that you do not need to capitalize the "K" :tongue:.

Actually, "OK" should be capitalised, since it is an abbreviation (don't ask me "of what?" because I don't know).

SE, I think a lesson on Spelling wouldn't go amiss!

OK is perfectly fine to be typed Ok, in my opinion. However, it is correctly typed OK.

Just to repeat what Kaboom already said, the comma should be replaced with a period. And the apostrophe should always go in between the two letters where another letter is missing.

Ok im going to post what happened to me saturday.
* I walked into my room,then sat down on my bed and fliped on the TV to see if the news was on or anything else importat.Then as i was flipping through channels i remembered on the top of my bunkbed i had my new knife i got from the mail.Them i climbed up my bunkbed ladder and grabbed my knife in its case. Then i pulled it out of the case,and in an instant it caught my skin like a clip.Then i paniced as i put the knife back in the case carefully and went to get a papertowel fast. After eleven minutes i finally got the courage to tell my mom about my deep wound in my middle finger.As i walked into my mom's bedroom she saw my finger and said "Whats wrong with your finger?" As i moved the papertowel from my finger,my mom's face turned as pale as a ghost as she yelled "We gotta take you to the Walk-in clinic fast!!!" As we walked down the stairs to go to my mom's car heading to the Walk-in clinic i felt myself in a verry bad situation and wished i could go back in time so i didnt touch the knife.*

(Note: The story above is based on a true story that happend to me on saturday)

Sorry, but you made numerous mistakes. For one, when you are talking about yourself, I is always capitalized. 2nd, days of the week, like Saturday and Sunday, are always capitalized as well. Thirdly, when you start a quote like "Do this." You always have an opening comma if someone is saying that and they are included. Such as, my mom said,"Do that now." Other than those mistakes and other spelling mistakes, you did very well.

Lesson #2 - Ending Sentences

Alright, no matter how beautiful one of your RP sentences are, you have to end all of them. This can be done in three ways, or four.

Period (.) - Basically, you use a period to end a statement. This is probably the most common type of sentence end, and I don't even know why I'm telling you this.

Use a period in the following situations (even outside sentence ends):


to mark the end of a sentence which is not a question or exclamation
to indicate an abbreviation
three dots to indicate a pause "..." (or otherwise known as a elipsis; thank you DX-Mon!)
Question Mark (?) - The question mark is used to end a sentence that is a question.


When to use a question mark:


at the end of all direct questionsExclamation Mark (!) - This is basically used to express excitement.

When to use an exclamation mark:

to express a short, excited phrase (Look out!)
to mark a phrase as sarcastic or ironic
to end an excited sentenceSemicolon [;] - A semicolon does not end a sentence, yet it joins two sentences together. The two sentences must be relatively related.

There you have it, folks! While on the forum and during your own role playing, please exhibit what you've just learned. Wasn't that easy?

I would comment that three dots (...) is an Elipsis which is special engish word that means three dots, or a pause, depending on how you feel.

It also can be put at the end of a list to give the same meaning as "etc.". Also, one thing to note is that if the last word of a sentence is an abbreviation, you need to put the abbreviation dot and the end of sentence one too.
Example: "The current population of Earth is 6.5 billion approx.."
