Spiritomb

Spiritomb is a very unique pokemon, having no weaknesses at all. Not only that but it also has 3 immunities as well as quite a decent movepool. However there are a few things, which make Spiritomb a bit disappointing. Firstly its hp is very measly, barely getting over 300 if lucky and trained well. Next the thing that pushes its status down is its horrible speed, allowing slower pokemon like Lickylicky and Rampardos to get a few hits in before Spiritomb can. Both defensives are the best stats of Spiritomb however it won’t be able to stand up a Rampardos for long too. Nevertheless like many other ghost pokemon, Spiritomb has quite a few tricks up its sleeve, bumping its status back up but not as useful as other useful ghosts like Gengar. On one final note, I know I might bag Spiritomb a lot but please know that I think Spiritomb is quite an awesome pokemon with potential in the OU section.

Item: Leftovers
Nature: Careful/ Impish

Attacks:
Willo-Wisp/ Hypnosis
Pain Spilt
Taunt
Sucker Punch/ Pursuit

As you can see, Spiritomb is quite unique not just because of it typing but also because of its movepools. Willo-Wisp or Hypnosis will inflict the opponent with a status problem burn and sleep respectively. Both are good options. Pain Split is one of the only moves, which befits from the user having a low hp because not only can this attack act as a recovery move but if you foe’s health is higher than yours, damage will also be dealt to your opponent until you and your opponent have an equal number of hp. Taunt here will take care of pokemon who try and use Nasty Plot to raise their special attack power, not having to fear Willo-Wisp. This might either force your opponent to attack or switch. That’s where the last moves comes in handy. It just depends on what you fear more, a powerful attack being landed on Spiritomb or your foe switching to something else, possibly more dangerous

Special Sweeper

Item: Expert Belt/ Life Orb/ Leftovers
Nature: Modest

Attacks:
Nasty Plot
Shadow Ball
Psychic/ Water Pulse/ Silver Wind/ Pain Split/ Sucker Punch/ Hypnosis
Psychic/ Water Pulse/ Silver Wind/ Pain Split/ Sucker Punch/ Hypnosis

Like I’ve mentioned before, Spiritomb isn’t an incredibly feared sweeper because of its low speed, allowing even pokemon like Rampardos to attack before it, which is deadly. But it’s actually quite hard to ignore Spiritomb’s special attack power, reaching just over 300 if trained well, which is quite decent. Nasty Plot will once again basically double the special attack power of Spiritomb. Shadow Ball becomes Spiritomb’s main sweeping move, reaching 120 power with the STAB. The rest of the moves are just for sweeping or giving Spiritomb time to set up Nasty Plot. Sucker Punch was added here for taking on pokemon like Alakazam who would want to finish you off fast when they have the chance. Spiritomb could’ve made quite a decent special sweeper but its low speed kept it lagging behind others, thus greatly reducing its potential but a change from Trick Room will greatly help. It’s actually quite lucky that Spiritomb has the typings it has, giving it no weaknesses and some handy immunities.

Contest Type: Beauty

Moves:
Nasty Plot
Silver Wind
Protect
Faint Attack

I know you guys have seen this set so many times before but the reason why I keep suggesting it is because it’s so good. Nasty Plot will double your next round score, making an 8 heart score possible. Silver Wind will be your following move but use this at your own risk. The move will get you 2 points but if you raise the judge’s voltage, your score will be raised by 2 before being doubled again after Nasty Plot. However if you don’t manage to go first following the use of a Nasty Plot, someone else appealing before might prevent the judges voltage going up meaning that you 2 combo appeal will be worth only 4 stars so that’s where Protect might come in handy. Just try and choose the judge with the lowest judge for an achievable 4 star appeal before being doubled. If you want to mix things up, use Faint Attack when you’re going last to give you a 4 star appeal. Again sets like this are really easy to use, set up with Nasty Plot before getting you next round score doubled.

Type:
Other than Sableye, Spiritomb is the only other pokemon that can have no natural weaknesses. Because of Spiritomb’s low speed stat, the types plus the defenses given to Spiritomb really help it in battle. Not just that, Spiritomb has 3 immunities, making it quite easy to switch into battle. Taking advantage of Spiritomb’s low speed is the best way to bring it down. A good solid pokemon that can a lot of hits Spiritomb throws at it might do the trick. Pokemon such as Torterra or Empoleon aren’t bad choices and even psychics like Metagross or even Medicham with high attack can quickly knock out Spiritomb before it’s able to do too much damage. Skarmory, Garchomp and Bronzong are options as well. Also watch out for pokemon who have the Guts ability or Flash Fire ability, using them to absorb up Willo-Wisp.

Ability- Pressure:
With Spiritomb’s great defenses, the Pressure ability fits in perfectly. The Pressure ability reduces an attacking move like Earthquake or Thunder Wave PP by 2 instead of 1 each time it’s used. This is Spiritomb’s only ability but it works great together with Spiritomb’s stats.
