The Swinub Trio and the Steamy Battle

The episode begins with Hikari and Brock watching Ash as he trains, trying to perfect his Turtwig’s newly acquired attack, Energy Ball. The grass turtle pokemon fires an emerald colored ball of energy into the air but as soon as the attack is launched, it loses power, breaking up much to the frustration of Ash. Ash tries to comfort Turtwig, saying that they’ll keep practicing but Brock cuts in suggesting that they should take a break from the training. Ash agrees and calls back his Turtwig who is still a bit disappointed.

Brock starts to check his map for the nearest pokemon center to rest their pokemon in but discovers that it’s a fair distance away. With this, Hikari informs everybody of some nearby hot springs that they could all rest at. The hot springs are in fact run by the family of an old childhood friend of hers. Hearing the wonderful idea, Ash and the group soon head off to the suggested location.

Sometime later at the hot springs, a red haired girl is talking with her three Swinub. The three pokemon listen to her intently before beginning to cheer when she finishes her speech, much to the delight of the girl. Suddenly, Hikari quickly comes running up, calling out Yumomi, which appears to be the girl’s name. Seeing her childhood friend, Yumomi quickly calls back to her, addressing Hikari by her humiliating nickname, the same one Kenny called her. Hikari suddenly comes to a halt, telling her not to call her that.

After that little incident, the two make up and continue on with their reunion. Hikari says that she’s lucky to have found the hot springs to rest up her pokemon but Yumomi doesn’t seem to be to sure of something. Trying to change the subject, Yumomi mentions that she saw Hikari in some of her contests on TV recently. Immediately Hikari’s face turns to glum look due to her recent losses and Yumomi quickly tries to comfort her. After cheering up, Hikari introduces Ash and Brock to Yumomi and vise versa. Enthusiastically, Yumomi says that she would like to test her skills as a trainer, prompting Ash to challenge her to a battle later, exciting Yumomi. With this, Hikari mentions that they should probably get changed for the hot springs and walks off, soon followed by Ash and Brock despite Yumomi trying to tell the group something again.

A while later after getting changed, Ash, Hikari and Brock rush over excitedly to the hot springs with all their pokemon. Hikari comments on how beautiful the hot springs look. Pillars of concrete sprout out from the springs as a small Gyarados fountain in the distance provides water for the springs however, no water is coming out at the moment. The three along with Piplup leap into the springs but much to their surprise, the water only reaches up to their ankles. Yumomi then quickly runs over apologizing before telling everybody that her family’s hot springs has run out of water.

Some time later after Ash and the group have gotten changed, Yumomi explains that because of the lack of water in the hot springs, her parents have gone up to the mountains to investigate this incident since that’s where their main supply of water for the hot springs comes from. A pipe is supposed to pump hot water from the mountains back down to the hop springs but apparently for some reason, it’s stopped doing that. Hikari has a disappointed look on her face but Yumomi tells her that her three Swinub can locate the water. Wondering how, Hikari scans them on her pokedex and learns that they have the ability to locate hot springs.

Hikari quickly cheers up and flashbacks to a day that she’ll remember forever. Hikari about the age of 7 is crouching on the ground crying after being bullied. Yumomi, the same age as her then comes along and tries to cheer her up, telling her not to worry and that they’ll overcome the bully together. Up on the playground, the bully around the same age as the two girls is voicing himself to all the other kids watching below. After receiving some words of encouragement from Yumomi, Hikari’s flashback ends and along with Ash and Brock, agrees to help Yumomi find what happened to the water supply.

A while later, the three Swinub are sniffing along the ground trying to locate the water. Suddenly, they pick up a scent and quickly dash off as Ash and the group eagerly follow on.

Meanwhile at another hot spring, Team Rocket dressed as workers, have been busily digging away, creating a hot spring of their own. The pipe that flows water from the mountains down to Yumomi’s family hot springs is actually flowing water into Team Rocket’s after being tampered with. Meowth then comes up with another one of his wacky sightings about “the boss”, this time with him relaxing in their hot spring while being pampered and entertained by Jessie and James. “The boss” then compliments the three on their efforts much to the delight of Jessie, James and Meowth as the thought ends.

Later, Ash, Hikari, Brock and Yumomi are led to the Team Rocket hot springs by the three Swinub. Seeing the group’s surprise arrival, Meowth calmly walks over to the group and accuses them of trespassing. However Yumomi accuses the workers of stealing the hot spring water just as Jessie and James run over to help Meowth defend their new scheme. They all start explaining that one day they while they were randomly digging, they found a treasure chest filled with all kinds of rare gems. Intrigued, they kept digging, hoping to find some more rare gems. Eventually they found a natural spring of hot steamy water and decided to start up a hot spring business. After listening to their zany story, Yumomi still believes that something suspicious is going on and that Team Rocket isn’t telling the truth.

She quickly inspects the pipe pumping the water into the hot springs as well as the water itself and discovers it to be very similar to her family’s hot springs. Positive that Team Rocket stole the water, she accuses them again but because of having no proof, Yumomi is forced to take her accusation back. Hearing this, Team Rocket begins to rejoice in triumph but unexpectedly something starts to swim out from their hot springs. A Wooper suddenly surfaces and attached to its tail is a strange beaming mechanical device.

Ash picks up the Wooper and Yumomi instantly realizes that its once of her family’s. Suddenly two people appear and start calling out to Yumomi who quickly answers back, surprising Ash, Hikari and Brock that she’s calling out to her parents. A while later, Yumomi explains her presence in the mountains to her parents. Her parents then verify that they found the water pipe that was supposed to lead water to their hot springs but its been redirected to somewhere else. They started following the pipe with Wooper and eventually found their way here, to a new spring. Immediately Yumomi realizes that the workers did steal the water and accuses them again, this time with proof.

Seeing how their scheme has been figured out, the workers reveal their true identity as Team Rocket to everybody. After chanting their motto, Meowth calls upon their newest robotic weapon, a giant human shaped machine with skinny arms and legs. It has pincers as hands as well as a large wooden barrel shaped body. Its head is shaped to form a golden bathtub with hot water inside. (It’s too ridiculous to explain)

Suddenly the machine opens up its pincers before firing several powerful blasts of water at Ash and the group, completely soaking and forcing them to run. Pikachu tries a Thunderbolt attack but Ash halts it saying that because everybody has been soaked, its too dangerous use it. Pikachu stops its attack but runs in for an Iron Tail. However the attack proves to be totally powerless against the giant machine and as a result, Pikachu falls helplessly to the ground.

Hikari then reminds Yumomi about the time when they faced the bully and just like back then, she decides to team up with her to fight Team Rocket. After saying Hikari’s trademark line, Yumomi sends her three Swinub underground. The three Swinub soon all pop out from under one of the machine’s feet, causing it to lose balance for a moment before spilling some of the hot water inside the bathtub. The spilt water lands on the machine, heating its body up, making it weaker.

Hikari then sends out her Buneary which fires and Ice Beam attack, rapidly cooling the machine down. The rapid change of temperature has made the machine even weaker as cracks begin to show. The machine eventually becomes too weak and topples over onto Team Rocket, sending them blasting off again. After their victory, Hikari and Yumomi quickly run over to each other and start celebrating as her parents thank the group for their help.

Later that evening, Yumomi is about the have her battle with Ash, however she calls Hikari to be her partner. She announces that she would like to have a tag battle, much to the delight of everybody else. Brock then becomes Ash’s partner and the battles starts.

Yumomi is using a Swinub for the battle as Hikari chooses Piplup. Ash sends out Chimchar as Brock calls upon his Sudowoodo. Swinub starts off with Tackle and starts to charge over at Sudowoodo but the attack is dodged. Swinub falls to the ground as Piplup tries to cover for it with a Peck attack, launching the assault at Chimchar. However Chimchar knocks it back with Scratch, knocking the penguin pokemon back to Swinub. The two then try again and launch an Ice Shard and Bubblebeam combination but is again dodged by their opponents.

Taking this opportunity, Chimchar fires a Flamethrower attack but Piplup and Swinub are just barely able to dodge that attack. With Swinub defenseless, Chimchar charges at it with Flame Wheel but Piplup bravely leaps in the way to try and protect its partner. Seeing how well their pokemon work together, Hikari and Yumomi flashback to when they worked together to take on the bully. They nod their heads as their pokemon begin to execute a plan. Chimchar closes in for its attack but apparently Piplup and Swinub have disappeared. However the two pokemon soon appear from underground, revealing that Swinub has dragged Piplup underground in order to dodge the Flame Wheel attack.

Piplup then quickly launches a Whirlpool attack, hitting Chimchar with it. Seeing how they now have the upper hand, they flashback once more to their childhood, Hikari is dusting up hands after apparently dealing with the bully. The bully himself is lying motionless on the ground as Yumomi and Hikari stand over him, obviously somehow pummeling the bully. (It looks like that) As the flashback ends, Piplup fires a Bubblebeam attack, hitting Chimchar and pushing it back. Swinub then attacks with Blizzard however Sudowoodo dodges and strikes back with Double Edge, smashing into Swinub. The Blizzard attack though has hit Chimchar, forcing it to block. As the attack continues to rage on, Sudowoodo uses Mimic to copy the Blizzard attack and fires it right back at Piplup and Swinub. Swinub starts another Blizzard, turning the battlefield into a massive snowstorm.

After a few nervous moments, the battle ends in an entertaining draw. The mass blizzard has frozen up all the pokemon and both trainers decide to call it quits. After complimenting each other, Yumomi says that they can use the hot springs now, much to the delight of Ash and Pikachu.

That night, everybody is at the hot springs relaxing except Buizel who is busy punching water coming out of a flume, training itself. Ash, Hikari, Brock and Yumomi are also in the spring, lying back and relaxing. Ash, Hikari and Brock mention how good the hot springs are before Yumomi brings up the fact of contests to Hikari. Still down about her recent loses, Hikari droops her head down but Yumomi reassures her, saying that she’ll do great.

Ash then brings up a question that he’s been longing to find an answer to for a while now and seeing how Yumomi seems to know the answer, he poses it to her. He asks her how and why did Hikari get the humiliating nickname she has and just as Yumomi is just about to explain, Hikari shoves her friend’s head underwater, telling her to stop. Yumomi soon reemerges and begins to laugh along with Hikari, leaving Ash and Brock confused.

The next day, Ash, Hikari and Brock head off to their next adventure after waving goodbye to Yumomi and her family.

Haha. A Swinub episode. It sounds great, but I never watch these episodes anymore.

It took about 5-6 hrs basically. This includes finding a video of the episode, getting up ideas and proofreading 3 times as well. Thanks for reading this.
