Lanturn
One of my favourites, Lanturn has a great amount of health and its defenses aren't that bad meaning it can stay in battles for quite a long time. Also, its special ability is good and it does have a good movepool, allowing it to play a few different roles. Lanturn I would say is quite underestimated as it is in the UU section but it can easily stand up to and take down OU pokemon with ease.
3rd Generation
Special Sweeper
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Modest
Ability: Volt Absorb
Attacks:
Thunder Wave
Confuse Ray/ Surf/ Ice Beam/ Thunderbolt
Surf/ Ice Beam/ Thunderbolt
Substitute/ Confuse Ray/ Surf
Lanturn isn't an incredibly hard pokemon to use. The only hard thing about it is choosing the moves. Thunder Wave cripples those sweepers. The rest of the moves are up to you. For this sweeping Lanturn, I'd choose Thunderbolt, Ice Beam and Substitute. Everything there is self-explanatory. Lanturn has really good stats with a very high hp stat, into the high 400s at full. It's defence is average but its special stats are underestimated, especially its special attack. Finally to fully use Lanturn, switch it in when your opponent is about to use an electric attack. Volt Absorb with convert the attack into health.

Item: Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Ability: Volt Absorb
Attacks:
Thunder Wave
Confuse Ray
Substitute/ Amnesia/ Rest
Surf/ Thunderbolt/ Ice Beam
This is the Lanturn I use. Thunder Wave cripples your opponent's while Confuse Ray confuses them. The chance of them attacking now has become quite low. With the 3rd move, the only one that really stands out is Substitute allowing it to set up Thunder Wave and Confuse Ray a bit more easily if lucky. The final move is plainly just to help Lanturn attack, the choice is yours. Again with its high defenses and a movepool to suit it, this kind of Lanturn is one of the best. The exact set I use is Thunder Wave, Confuse Ray, Substitute and Surf.

4th Generation
Annoyer
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Ability: Volt Absorb
Attacks:
Thunder Wave
Confuse Ray
Substitute/ Aqua Ring/ Amnesia/ Rest/ Charge
Ice Beam/ Thunderbolt/ Surf
The 4th generation annoyer Lanturn is a bit better than the 3rd with the expansion of its movepool. But basically it's the same as the 3rd generation one. The only difference is that with its 3rd move it has a few more options. Aqua Ring is like a Leftovers, restoring that amount of health each turn. Now if you do pick Charge, remember that Charge raises special defence and you have to pick Thunderbolt for your set. There's no use picking Charge just to raise a single stat when there's a better move that can raise it more.

Special Sweeper
Item: Leftovers/ Life Orb/ Expert Belt/ Choice Specs
Nature: Modest
Ability: Volt Absorb
Attacks:
Surf
Thunderbolt
Single Beam
Ice Beam
The sweeping version of Lanturn. There's nothing really to explain about this one except Lanturn doesn't have a great speed. Its special attack isn't bad but be careful that you don't rely on this Lanturn to sweep like an Aerodactyle can. The good thing though about this Lanturn is that with its high hp and ok defenses, it can sweep for a longer period of time.

Tank
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Ability: Volt Absorb
Attacks:
Toxic
Confuse Ray
Whirlpool
Aqua Ring/ Amnesia
A toxic tank version of Lanturn. In the 4th generation, Lanturn has been given a move that really help it out and that's Whirlpool, which stops your opponents from switching out while doing damage each turn. However Whirlpool's accuracy is a bit worrying. The power of Toxic also increases as you go on in battle, which is your main source of damage. Confuse Ray limits your opponent's chances of attacking while Toxic and W while the final move is simply to help Lanturn stay in a battle for a while longer. With its high hp stat, Lanturn has potential to become a powerful tank.
