View Full Version : Question
I'm new and a little confused... What is RPing? I assume it means Role Play. Am I right? Can someone explain this to me?

Yes, role playing is the art of becoming something/someone and doing something with other characters...
Terrible explanation, I know. I'll create an RP here in a second to demonstrate.

Roleplay is the act of creating a character and detailing events in coordination with others. It's sort of similar to a "round robin" story. Essentially, you create a character, and detail their actions as if you were writing a story, and then someone else creates a character, and details their response in the same format, and many people can join.
Example:
Post1
Billy was a young boy from Veilstone City. He had just got a Piplup, and was walking along. He said, "What a beautiful day."
Post2
Sydney was a young girl from Kanto, with a Charmander. She walked along, and noticed Billy. She waved. "Hi!"

Text based RPing is when you tell a story wiht other people through making posts as a character. There are 2 types of characters:
CC - Custom characters = characters you make up, ie: Jackie Stone or Ryoko
Cannon - Cannon characters = characters from a series, ie: Goku or Itachi
Most RPs make you use one or the other but sometimes you can pick. You are usually not allowed to use other peoples characters without their permission.
Make sure your posts are:
Descriptive
1 or 2 paragraphs
Interesting
Smart!
Rules:
No Double Posting
No God Modding (Making your character all powerful ect.)
Please don't quit RPs
Have Fun!!!
So... it's like writing a story with more than one person writing? Sounds like fun and really easy, since you'll have a lot of people coming up with new plots and story line. I want to try one out now! Can someone help me?

. Once we have an answer, I'm going to sum everything up and post this as an announcement.
I think I got it. I checked around a few places and it's not as hard as I thought. It's just like writing a story, only with more people, and you control only your character, or characters. To be honest, I'm going to need a few to play, just to balance myself out. You know what I'm talking about? I'm going to need a good character, a bad character, and maybe a foil character. Playing just one seems too hard.
