View Full Version : New Voices - Your Honest Opinion

I can post this, right?

Well, here's mine:

Team Twerp:

Ash - Great! Sarah was bad in the beginning but she's become awesome with the movie and the later Season 9 and 10 episodes! Veronica lost the Ashiness when Advanced Generation started, when she tried to make him sound older...

Sarah, however, sounds a bit older while sounding like a good voice for Ash. Watch Pachirisu's debut episode, and listen to his first line if you know what I mean.

Sadly, she can be inconsistent. She'll have an awesome episode, and then she'll suck next time...

She'll get even better, I know it!

Misty - She's okay now...I really haven't heard enough to get a good opinion...

Max - I liked both voices a lot, but I kinda prefer the old voice...

May - She sounds a little too deep still...and too princessy if you know what I mean...Veronica Taylor was a lot better.

Brock - I prefer his new voice a lot over Eric Stuart's. This one sounds like Brock as meant to sound, the old one sounded nerdy! Go Bill Rogers!

Team Rocket:

Meowth: I miss the cute Meowth who had a heart...now he sounds like a nasty villain...Jimmy Zoppi should fix that...

James: Hmm...emotional and more British like the new one, or funnier and dumber like the old one? I like them both. I'm sure the new one would make a better "Sweet Baby James" while the old one would be better in other episodes...

Jessie: I really don't care...I can tell a minor difference, but it really doesn't phase me with this character...I guess I'll say Rachael Lillis had something Michelle Knotz doesn't though...although it's really hard to tell...

Others:

Professor Oak: I prefer Jimmy Zoppi playing him, because you can hear the family resemblance with him and Gary.

Gary: Jimmy Zoppi has been there for Gary the whole time...as Kayzie stayed with Wobbufett. I'll explain later...

Drew: It sounds good, but the old voice sounded more...Drewish if you know what I mean...

Harley - They're both great, but the old one had the right voice...I haven't heard much of the new one though...I'll update later when I do...

Oldies Returning:

Even though they were found out and fired by 4Kids, they work for TAJ under aliases.

Jimmy Zoppi was Gary and Namba...and fillers...

Kayzie Rogers was Wobbufett and fillers...

But now Jimmy Zoppi has gained Meowth (for the worse) and Oak (for the better). Kayzie Rogers had Ash in the original Mastermind (not the redub) and still has Max...

Also, Pokémon from when TAJ originally handled the show, Seasons 1-5, for the most part, keep their old voices, thanks to stock clips.

Exceptions include Pokémon voiced by main characters, like Diglett. Diglett was voice by Veronica Taylor, so they changed it, probably not to get the fans worked up...the same goes for Jigglypuff (Rachael Lillis), Squirtle (Eric Stuart), and a few others...

Anyway, I've been kinda neutral to this...SOVA never had any chance anyway...but I've helped both SOVA and SONVA out at times...

You can post this, though if it turns into any sort of a debate similar to another forum, it's being closed and moved to the Junkyard.

I wouldn't worry too much. I'll just delete any debating posts (not soft either). This is a good thread. I personally don't mind much, with the following exceptions:
-Meowth's old voice was better, cutter, friendlier
-Ash's is much better now, I still miss the one in the very first seasons, it was actually, well, a Boy's voice.

I personally gave up on the anime after the VA switch. (Partially also because I took up watching the Japanese version to stay ahead of everything). I don't really like the new voices that much... but I'm watching through Battle Frontier slowly once a week and they are starting to sound better. But I do miss the old Veronica Taylor dubbing of May...

Don't worry. I know about Bulbagarden's debate problem...here at PokéZam, people are a lot friendlier.

Well then just so I'm not off topic, I'll say that for the few times that I catch the dub episodes, I do not mind the voices. They sound a bit odd at first, though do not hurt the experience for me at all.

I think they all sound good. I love how sarah does Ash's voice. For some reason I find him very cute now and I was never much of an Ash fan in the past.^-^

I feel Bill Rogers adds a slight bit much character to borck that I can't explain. I don't know I use to ignore Brock until Bill took over.=P

I liked may's new voice aswell and made me like may which I wasn't keen on back in Hoenn.

Lol. Now I know why I didn't watch Pokemon 6 season to 8th seasons repetitively like I do the other seasons now thinking about. I had always been a season 1-5 fan and kind of got bummed out when Misty left. I didn't like May until the new VA. I honestly don't even know what she did differently but the new VA was absolutely amazing in 9th movie ^-^ Then the character left at the end of 9th season.......
Just when I was starting to like May as much as Misty which kind of sucks.=(

The old VA's are cool though and the new VA's are just as cool. I can watch anything.=)

Who on earth is Jimmy Zoppi?

Ash's new voice is horrible. I'm sorry, but it's just... wierd. The voice itself is fine, it just doesn't work with Ash.

I agree. It sounds like he swallowed a toad. X.x

His voice was higher, and then suddenly, he sounds like a tuba!

Pika girl: Jimmy Zoppi voiced Gary, Namba, and other minor characters up until the end of Season 8. In Season 9, he stayed and kept his roles, plus he got some new additional roles such as Meowth and Professor Oak.

Yeah sometimes some voice actors have a lot of voices and none of them are really all that different.

Actually a lot of female voice actors (or actresses I guess) provide the voices for male characters.

Nancy Cartwright for example provided the voice of Bart Simpson. I can't remember the name of the woman who used to voice Tommy from the Rugrats. Finally of course we have both Veronica Taylor who used to voice Ash and Sarah Natochenny who currently voices Ash.

I've talked to a lot of kids about it and here's what seems to be the consensus:

"The new voices are tolerable, but not as good as the old ones, with some minor exceptions. The episodes are, however, much higher in quality now."

That's not my opinion, read the first post for that.

1: Why would they have a woman do a boy's voice???

2: That, my acquaintance, is a possible crush:D ... or it could be deeper and richer, she could have a better attitude in her voice, maybe even the wavelengths*???

You can figure it out better that me.

*everybody has a different signature wavelength that varies based on different factors who's details i refuse to bore you with. if you want more information on this... google!

Well in most shows, the opposite gender does the voices jared.

ok, but that still doesn't make it soud any more logical...

Jared, most fans agree on the thing with Jessie's voice, male and female. It's not a crush. XD I've always despised her more than almost any other character on...well, anything! I like Misty MUCH better.

Also, it's usually just little boys played by woman. Females are rarely played by males, it's not ALWAYS the opposite gender playing the characters.
