The Grand Festival is well under way, and May has made it to the second round of the Finals, which is a battle round. Her first opponent is none other than the notorious Harley, who wants revenge from the time May handed him a stunning defeat in Purika City. Harley starts off the battle with a Screech attack from Banette and a Bullet Seed from Cacturne. Temporarily immobilized, May's Pokémon get hit by the attack and May loses some points.

May commands a Vine Whip from Bulbasaur; Harley orders his Pokémon to dodge but their legs get caught anyways. Beautifly uses Silver Wind and Harley loses some points as Drew watches on the television monitor inside. Bulbasaur releases Banette and Cacturne from Vine Whip with some force and they start to spin through the air. With a Silver Wind from Beautifly, they spin even faster. Sukizo labels it ìremarkable!î Harley loses significant points from the combo of attacks from May, and he isn't happy about it. Banette and Cacturne begin to dizzily walk around but Harley snaps them out of it.

Bulbasaur attempts another Vine Whip but Banette stops it with Torment and the Vines recoil. Ash wonders why so Max explains: once Torment is used, the attacked Pokémon can't use the previous move over and over. Cacturne fires a Pin Missile, forcing Beautifly to carry Bulbasaur into the air. Banette releases a Will-O-Wisp and it directly hits Banette's quarry. May loses some more points but rebounds with a Petal Dance to block Will-O-Wisp. Harley orders a Pin Missile from Cacturne which counters the Petal Dance. The attacks explode as Harley taunts May. Bulbasaur and Beautifly emerge from the smoke and fire off one last attack each: Razor Leaf and Silver Wind respectively. Harley's Pokémon faint, he runs out of points and May is declared the winner! Harley passes Drew on his way out of the Stadium; he tells Drew that he'll be happy to see him and May lose in the next rounds.

Outside, Jessie plans to steal Robert's Pass and Ribbons when she sees him on James' laptop. Robert walks out of the Contest Arena and is snagged with one of Team Rocket's mechanical arms. Ash, Pikachu, and Snorunt run out of the Arena and Ash has Pikachu use Thunderbolt. The arm recoils as Robert tells Ash he's okay and wonders who Jessie, James and Meowth are. They introduce themselves with their motto once again. Jessie and James release Dustox and Cacnea, who heads for another pokey hug with James.

Ash orders an Ice Beam from Snorunt but it fizzles out. Robert talks to Snorunt and tells it to focus more on the attack. Cacnea releases a Pin Missile and Dustox attacks with Psybeam. Both attacks head for Pikachu but Snorunt jumps in the way and the result is an explosion. Suddenly, a white light emanates from the smoke. From the top, a Glalie emerges and the smoke disappears. Ash looks Glalie up in the Pokédex as it begins charging for Ice Beam. The attack fires perfectly and Team Rocket blasts off once again. Ash hugs his newly evolved Pokémon and thanks Robert for helping Glalie to perfect its attack.

Meanwhile, May is almost done with her battle against Anthony. With 30 seconds left, May has almost twice as many points. May is using Combusken and Bulbasaur against Anthony's Swalot and Pinsir. Combusken moves in for a Peck but Pinsir bursts out of Swalot and grabs Combusken's beak with its pincers. Just then, the time runs out and May is declared the winner. Afterwards, May and Anthony shake hands and congratulate each other. The pairings for the third round are revealed and May now has to face Drew.

The battle begins with May releasing Skitty and Combusken and Drew sending in Roselia and Flygon. Ash quickly pulls out his Pokédex and looks up Flygon as Drew orders a Petal Dance from Roselia. Flygon flies straight through Skitty's Fire Spin Assist as Combusken aims a Sky Uppercut at it. Making full use of the sky, Flygon dodges into the air and Combusken falls to the ground on top of Skitty. May looks towards Flygon, flying past the sun, and blinds herself. Drew commands a Flamethrower from Flygon and Solarbeam from Roselia. Combusken blocks both attacks and drives them backwards with a Fire Spin, causing Drew to lose points.

With 3:19 left on the clock, May ordered another Fire Spin from Combusken and a Blizzard from Skitty. Roselia hopped on Flygon and the two dodged into the air, sending May's points ever lower. The clock at 1:00, May orders an Assist from Skitty. Assist made a Vine Whip but the vines missed their targets. Instead, Combusken Jumps on them and uses them to launch itself up to Flygon and Roselia. Drew orders a Magical Leaf Defense from Roselia which Skitty blocks with Blizzard. Drew orders a Flamethrower on Combusken but Combusken dives into the flames and strikes with Sky Uppercut.

Norman watches the battle from Petalburg City as the clock approaches 0:30 with Drew ahead on points. May orders a Quick Attack from Combusken and a Tackle from Skitty as Roselia uses Stun Spore. Flygon hits both of its opponents with Steel Wing as the clock runs out; Drew is announced the Winner. Even though she did not win, the crowd begins to cheer for May, who put up a brilliant fight all the way to the end. Inside, Harley mutters angrily to himself.

Several battles later, the Final Two face each other for the coveted Ribbon Cup. With 0:30 seconds left between Drew and Robert, Robert orders a Twister from Milotic. Claydol emerges from the Twister and smashes Flygon and Masquerain with Hyper Beam. One final Iron Tail from Milotic and the battle is over. Robert wins the Grand Festival and is presented with the Ribbon Cup.

That night, a party is held to celebrate all of the participants' hard work. May sits on a bench, rubbing her stomach and commenting to herself that she ate too much. She spots some flashes nearby and investigates to find Drew training. He tells her that Robert is already training too. Before leaving, Drew tells May that no matter how hard you train, there is always someone better than you. The others arrive and Ash offers her an ice cream cone. May announces that she will continue to train for the next Grand Festival, to which Caroline reminds her that she must first turn her attention to Ash in the Hoenn League Championships.
