| This is the first episode in recent memory that Jessie and James have put up a significant fight, managing to coordinate and effectively use their Pokemon's abilities; it would be fair to say that Ash and the others were thrown off a bit by this surprise, and are forced to break out some of their stronger Pokemon to hold off Team Rocket. Snorunt has been outside of its Pokeball and was never put back inside throughout the whole episode. This marks the first time that Meowth is identified and analyzed through a Pokedex. Once again, Pokemon show telepathic skills; the Ralts contacts Max telepathically just as Sabrina and her Kadabra communicated in Abra and the Psychic Showdown and Haunter Versus Kadabra. |

The episode starts off with Max checking his Pokenav after the group getting lost. Brock mentions that it'll take a day to reach Sootopolis City. Ash jumps up telling everybody to cheer up because he's just one day from winning his eighth badge in Hoenn. Snorunt suddenly comes out from its Pokeball and freezes Ash. Ash falls to the ground as everybody else start making jokes. Suddenly, Max hears a voice calling out for help in his head, which only he can hear.
Max then runs off, determined to find whatever made the sound. In the background, the voices of Ash, May and Brock start discussing why Max ran off. After a while, Max charges through some bushes only to see a sick Ralts lying on the ground. Max takes it back to where the others are.
There, Ash, May, Max, Pikachu and Snorunt crowd around Ralts. Brock then tells Ralts to drink some of his soup but Ralts turns its head just as Max feeds it the soup. Pikachu then says some stuff to it and Ralts drinks the soup before smiling. Max thanks Pikachu and May gets her Pokedex out and scans Ralts. Max lays it down before introducing himself to it. Snorunt jumps in front of Ralts though, scaring it. Ash and Max scold Snorunt for doing this but Snorunt takes Ash's cap and Max's glasses, freezes them and puts them back on their respective owners. Ralts starts to laugh at Ash and Max exclaiming how cold their frozen items are.
The group sees that Ralts has become better but Brock tells them that it hasn't fully recovered and that they have to get it to a Pokemon Center. Max then offers to carry Ralts but May doubts him. Max though says that he can do it and Ash agrees.
Team Rocket spies on the group from a tree branch. They see Ralts and Meowth comes up with a reason on why they should give it to the boss. James asks him why the boss would want a Ralts and Meowth explains that Ralts would sing to him just as he wakes up and stops everybody that tries to steal all his valuables. Hearing this, Team Rocket gets excited and decides to capture the Ralts.
Ash, May, Brock and Max carrying Ralts quickly rush to the nearest Pokemon Center. On their way, James who is dressed as an old man stops them. He claims to be the trainer of Ralts and calls out Gardevoir and Kirlia who happen to be Jessie and Meowth in disguise. Ralts tries to hide behind Max and Brock explains to him that Ralts has a fever and that they have to get it to a Pokemon Center. James though offers to take Ralts since he claims to be the trainer but Ralts again tries to hide behind Max. Max then steps back and asks James why Ralts is so afraid of him. James then tries to reassure him that he's the trainer of Ralts. Ash thinks that something suspicious is going on and he gets out his Pokedex and scans Meowth dressed as a Kirlia. The Pokedex identifies it as Meowth, a Pokemon has the ability to gather up coins, and Jessie starts asking him why he never told them about this.
May then screams out that she knows who they are and Team Rocket remove their disguises to reveal their real identity as the say their motto. A battle starts and Jessie sends out her Dustox. Dustox strikes with Whirlwind and a large gust of wind hits the group. James then sends out Cacnea and as always, Cacnea tries to hug James but this time, James dodges. Cacnea then uses a Pin Missile attack. The group all split up to avoid the attack. Ash's Pikachu then uses a Thunderbolt attack towards Team Rocket. Team Rocket gets hit, but Chimecho refreshes them by using Heal Bell.
May then sends out her Combusken and it uses a Fire Spin attack but it gets block by Dustox's Whirlwind. Jessie then sends out her Seviper and it uses a Poison Tail. Pikachu uses Iron Tail and the two Pokemon collide and there's an explosion. Cacnea then uses Pin Missile and Brock sends out his Ludicolo. Ludicolo blocks the attack with its Razor Leaf. Max asks Ralts if it's all right and he runs to the group to tell them that Ralts is getting worse. Jessie then tells her Dustox to use Psybeam and Seviper to use Poison Tail and James tells Cacnea to use Needle Arm. Ludicolo, Combusken and Pikachu jump in the way to block the attacks and Ash tells Max to run to the Pokemon Center with Ralts.
Max hesitates and the others all convince him that he's up to the task. He then runs off while the others stay behind to battle Team Rocket. Ludicolo gets knocked down and Snorunt uses Icy Wind, freezing all the trees and creating a fog in front of Team Rocket. Snorunt then runs off to help Max and Ralts. The fog disappears and the group is shocked to see that Team Rocket actually blocked the attack with Wobbuffet. Team Rocket brags for a while before realizing that Max and Ralts are gone. Frustrated, Jessie tells her Seviper to use Haze, surrounding the entire field with smoke.
Later, Max is still running with Ralts, closely followed by Snorunt. Team Rocket has fled from the battle and is looking for Max and Snorunt. Max notices that Ralts is getting worse. He puts it down and feels its head and discovers that the fever is getting worse. He then tries to get it to eat some berries but Ralts doesn't seem to have the strength. Max then drops the berries and starts to cry and apologizes to Ralts for letting it down. A cold breeze then blows by and Snorunt appears, holding up the berries Max had, only this time frozen. Snorunt then puts them into a cloth and Max wraps them up and places the cloth on Ralts' head. Ralts gives a smile and Max tries again to get it to eat some of the berries. It does and Max's face lights up.
Ash, May and Brock are walking to the Pokemon Center. May tells the group how worried she is about Max and Ash and Brock reassure her that Max is probably at the Pokemon Center already.
Max is still running with Ralts and Snorunt but they're stopped once again by Team Rocket. Team Rocket tries to get Max to hand over Ralts but Max refuses. Just when it seems like Jessie is about to use force, she's sent blasting off along with James and Meowth. Suddenly, a Gardevoir and a Kirlia appear. Max then realizes that Gardevoir and Kirlia sent Team Rocket away. Teleporting in front of Max, Gardevoir and Kirlia ask for Ralts back but Max refuses to give it to them. He then explains that it has a fever and that he's taking it to the Pokemon Center. Snorunt then starts to reason with Gardevoir and Max tells it to stop. Kirlia launches a Psychic attack and Max closes his eyes and spreads his arms out to protect Ralts but instead, Ralts protects him. Ralts had floated in front of the attack and uses Safeguard to stop it. Max then catches Ralts as it falls towards the ground. Kirlia tries to get Max to hand Ralts over again but Gardevoir stops it. Max thanks the two for giving him a chance. Gardevoir and Kirlia then teleport away, as Max runs off once again with Ralts to the Pokemon Center.
Max eventually arrives at the Pokemon Center. A while later, Ash, May and Brock arrive as well. Max runs up to his older sister May and hugs her. May then tells him that he did a great job. The next day, Nurse Joy comes out from the operating room and announces that Ralts is fine and Max rushes to see it. Ralts leaps out to Max and he catches in before twirling around with it. Brock then asks Nurse Joy how bad its condition was and she says that it had pneumonia and if it wasn't brought to the Pokemon Center at the time it was it possibly wouldn't have survived for another hour or two. Max then looks at Ralts before telling it that it has to go back to Kirlia and Gardevoir.
Everybody then walks outside with Ralts. Max calls out for Kirlia and Gardevoir and Kirlia appears but it's actually Jessie and Meowth dressed as them. Unlike before, Ash and the group doesn't fall for this trick and Ralts sends them blasting of with Psychic. Gardevoir and Kirlia then send James blasting off as well.
Gardevoir and Kirlia then appear. Max shows Ralts to them and they nod their heads. Max then lets go of Ralts' hand and steps back. Ralts starts to cry before leaping into Max's arms. Max hugs it as a gentle breeze blows some leaves by. Everybody watches as Max says goodbye to Ralts. Ralts though doesn't want to leave Max but he tells it that when he becomes a trainer himself, he'll come back for it. He then stands up and nods to Gardevoir. Gardevoir nods back and teleports away along with Kirlia and Ralts. Max steps forward as the breeze continues to blow. In the breeze, Max hears Ralts saying, "Promise me Max, promise me you'll come back and get me." Max then yells out he does promise to come back for it as everybody watches on, smiling and proud of Max.
