Information: Giovanni is the notorious leader of Team Rocket. He helped get Mewtwo created, but lost control of him and is still trying to get him back. Giovanni uses crime to gain all of his money for financing his plans of world domination. He used to own Pokemon Land, a place that got destroyed. Jessie, James and Meowth refer to him as "the boss" and they seem to be scared of him.
Giovanni hasn't seen Jessie, James and Meowth for a long time and probably doesn't even consider them part of Team Rocket anymore. Giovanni's face wasn't originally revealed in the anime, but they eventually showed it in The Battle of the Badge. Giovanni is usually seen with his favorite pet, Persian, even though Meowth wishes it was him.
Giovanni used to be the Gym Leader of Viridian City, but he has apparently left it to concentrate on Team Rocket and try to finally capture the elusive Mewtwo.
