See the Dominant Decks from Spring Regionals

Mewtwo and Zekrom were among the most popular Pokémon cards played at the Pokémon TCG Spring Regional Championships.

With the Pokémon TCG Spring Regional Championships over, let’s look back at some of the decks that dominated the competitions. And in doing so, we’ll give you a sneak peek at the metagame leading up to the National Championships in June.

You Too Can Play Mewtwo

No matter what kind of decks people are putting together, it’s almost inevitable that at least one Mewtwo-EX (Black & White—Next Destinies, 54/99) will make it in. Its X Ball attack is just so powerful and so easy to use, how could you not include it? Still, Mewtwo-EX is a little vulnerable, especially when it runs into another Mewtwo-EX—they fuel each other’s X Ball attacks, Mewtwo-EX is weak to Psychic-type Pokémon, and you can get very far behind very quickly if your opponent picks up 2 Prize Cards for Knocking Out your Mewtwo-EX.

Dark Explorers Featured Cards: Kyogre-Ex and Groudon-EX

Kyogre-EX

Kyogre-EX

Turn the tides on your opponent with Kyogre-EX (104/108)! First, show your opponent the nimble side of this gigantic Pokémon with its Smash Turn attack, which hits for 30 damage and lets you switch Kyogre-EX with one of the Pokémon on your Bench if you want to. After maneuvering Kyogre-EX back to being your Active Pokémon, you can soak two Pokémon at once with Dual Splash, with deals 50 damage to any two of your opponent’s Pokémon.

Whether it’s making itself difficult to hit with Smash Turn, or setting its sights on multiple targets, Kyogre-EX has what it takes to lead your next Water-type deck!

Groudon-EX

Groudon-EX

Continuing the parade of Legendary Pokémon appearing in the Black & Whiteseries, Groudon-EX (106/108) is ready to play its part! This Fighting-type Pokémon won’t be intimidated by the competition, no matter how many foes it faces. Groudon-EX starts its charge with Tromp, an attack that not only does 20 damage to the Defending Pokémon but also does 10 damage to each of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon. Then, it’s time for Groudon-EX’s Giant Claw attack to go to work! This attack deals 80 damage, plus 40 more if the Defending Pokémon has 2 or more damage counters on it!

That brawny one-two punch—along with its outstanding 180 HP—will make it unsafe for any Pokémon to face off against Groudon-EX!
